If it is a t-5 the speedo gear is located on drivers side of the tranny toward the back (output shaft). You will see the speedo cable and an electrical connector there. remove the small bolt and pull the assembly out from the transmission. Remove the metal c clip holding the old speedo gear on (keep metal c clip for reinstall) And reverse the operation to install the new gear. don't force the new gear in as you may break off some teeth. Not a hard operation at all. Good luck.

Another of my famous sketches. Borrowed this photo from 5.0 Resto.

This is the speed sensor that 302RollinHard refered to that is located at the back of the trans. on the driver side.

A. Use wrench or screw to unbolt (10mm? I don't remember). Then you can pull the assembly out.

B. You can pull the electrical connection out if you want. May make the sensor easier to move around, but is not necessary.

C. Plastic gear is located here. Pull C-Clip out as previously stated with small flathead screwdriver. Then swap gears and replace c-clip. Use caution to not break the needle on the end of the speed sensor off. Been there, done that, had to buy another sensor.

D. This is where the speedometer cable connects to the sensor. You don't have to remove it.
