Of course there's a problem! So, I bought a fuel level guage, the correct one 89 and up. I ran the wires just like it said and soldered all the connections. I wired everything to the stock harness behind the speedometer per these instructions:

http://www.stangnet.com/tech/cluster87-93.pdf

Anyhow, when I start the car the guage is responsive but it's all over the place. When I rev the guage will shoot way up then when I come to and idle the guage will come back down to empty. It's just very choppy. Could it be a bad ground? Or bad sender wire?

Weird **** man, nothing is easy eheh.

What wire did you tap into?? i know its supposed to be all over the place because you bypass the antislosh module but not when you rev the car. I would double check your source wire.

I tapped into #10 in the diagram above. I just cut a little square into the source wire so the wire was exposed, and soldered another wire to it, and ran it to the fuel guage. I'm using a 16 guage wire from the source wire to the autometer guage.

Yeah, thing is acting ****ing weird. I was just outside right now, it seems to bob a little over E, then when i get on the gas it moves up quite a bit then comes back down when it idles.

****ing weird, sending unit is probably bad.

im not at all familiar with the aftermarket units, but ill toss out what comes to mind.

as said, you have bypassed the slosh module. the alternator ouput probably messes it up too. without something like the antislosh module, im not sure how to attack the problem. someone like Tom or Joe might know.
it is common for the reading on aftermarket gauges to bounce around while driving w/o the module (even w/o alt changes). said another way, other autmeter-fuel-level gauge users have said the same thing.

i would just look at the gauge while idling on flat ground with the rpms up a bit, to where you have decent voltage (i look at mine about once a drive). also, you might notice more variation than you do even now, at night with the lights and the blower motor on.....
my lame thoughts.
good luck bud.
