Installed Mgw Shifter **pics**

Well i finally got around to installing my MGW shifter and MGW shifter knob today, and all I can say is WOW. The installation was incredibly easy, the hardest part was getting my wrench on the back 2 bolts that hold that rubber piece on, and the messy RTV. Besides that this was the easiest install ever. Difference is night and day compared to the stock POS. There are no vibrations through the shifter, its super quiet and the shifts are short and bang on. I recommend this shifter to anyone and everyone looking for an aftermarket shifter for your stang.

What I found discouraging about the install ... (1 week before the car was stolen ) ... was the supplied grommet that the lower boot was supposedly going to slip onto/into ... they should have stated that in the instructions for a T5 fox body

Other than that, the shifter WAS awesome

I love my MGW, I want to order the red handle just to see if there is a difference.

i didnt really need the instructions, i only read the part about the shift stops setting, other then that it was pretty straight foreward. that rubber boot fits perfectly, no cutting needed. i wouldnt bother with the red handle, the blue is the sport shifter for the shortest shifts. red is if you have short arms and cant reach with the blue i guess.

My cousin's Mustang has a Ripper shifter in it; I drove his car for about a week. When I got my car back with the MGW in it, it was a night and day difference. MGW was so much smoother. It is hard to miss 3rd and I still haven't adjusted the stops yet.

yea i've had mine for 4 months or so now, i love it, i cant imagine driving with a stock one now, i took out my console for the instillation though, made it a lot easier

I plan one the MGW as well. And the "sport handle" of course. But I won't go with their knob. They're pretty but expensive. I'd rather have a stock-style knob. That cobra does look awesome though.

i didnt take my console out, the 2 far bolts that hold the rubber boot on were a bi*ch to get out. i had my little 8mm wrench goin 1/8 turn after 1/8 turn until i finally got them out. took me about 15 mins, which is alot less then removing the console/cd player ect.

i think its impossible to miss 3rd with this shifter. If you do you need an automatic. lol

i noticed you said you didnt set your shift stops? how come? it takes like 2 mins., now youll have to take the rubber boot and all that crap out again. you should have set them when you had it all apart. plus if they arent adjusted right your car may not be going fully into gear.

i couldnt access the front 2 bolts, the shifter had never been off so u can imagine, they were a little tough.... taking out the console wasnt that bad either

Patients are not one of my virtues. As soon as it was bolted on, I was ready to test drive. To properly set the stops you need a little more than 2 minutes, plus I haven't had any problems. I also removed my console when installing the shifter; I am not a contortion artist I need room to work.

setting the stops takes less then 5 mins.. put it in 3rd turn the back bolt (closest to the dash) until it just touches the shaft then back it off 1 full turn.. then put it in 4th and do the same thing with the back bolt. then tighted the 2 nuts down. put it in each gear make sure its not touching the shaft with the stops and its done.

Does anyone else think these knobs are WAY overpriced? I mean, they are REALLY nice. But not for $60 + shipping IMO. And the "GRIPPER" knobs are 40 + shipping. I want that cobra knob BAD but I can't bring myself to pay that much for something that requires 10x less to produce. I'd pay 35 for the "race knob" and 25 for the "gripper."

i got a leather 99+ knob off 5.0 resto, i have "bigger" hands and i like it a lot, feels really good, looks really good also, i believe i paid around 29.99

i paid 180 US for the shifter and the knob off ebay. some guy bought it then sold the car before installing it. his loss my gain.
