This upcoming weekend I was planning on removing my back glass (coupe)and putting in a new gasket. There is NO headliner in my car, but I wasn't going to do that until I was ready to do the rest of the interior. Is it necessary to remove the front and rear glass to install a headliner? Or is there a good way of doing it by leaving it in there? I ask because my front windshield does NOT leak and I hate to remove it, but you gotta do what you gotta do right?

The headliner will never be right unless you also remove the front glass. Sorry.

On the other hand, getting a watertight seal is not that hard, you need to use nearly two tubes of glass bedding compound per glass, and most shops are too cheap to do this.

I was afraid of that. I ordered 2 tubes of 3M 8509 to install my back glass again, I guess I will order 2 more tubes and just go ahead and yank the front glass out too and get me a headliner on the way. I have never done either job of the glass or the headliner, but theres enough info online. I will just have to work on some other things and do this big job later....setbacks setbacks, hah

There are some good threads on this site with tips.

Check out the cut up windlace here: http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/722595-67-coupe-headliner-installation.html

The blue painters tape trick here: http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/730838-windshield-install-specific-question.html

And the string/rope tip here: http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/724161-front-rear-window-installation.html

For the last one I thought I remembered a more detailed description, but I'm having to go quickly to get to work.

If the seals are not soft and new, you'll want to replace them, too.
