i'll make this brief. i bought new heads a while back. i bought freeze plugs for them. i double checked the part number with two parts stores and they both gave me the same part number. so today i go to install the freeze plugs and they won't pop in. i used a large socket and an extension and tried to tap them in place. no go. then i tried hammering them in place. then i tried profanity and smacking the hell out of them. still no go. i realize the nature of the part requires a close tolerance but what the hell these things won't go in. so i have the wrong freeze plugs or am i unaware of an easy way to do it? btw the plugs are steel. any ideas?

I agree. They are a tight fit, but they shouldn't be too hard to pop in with a socket and hammer.
