Installing new tires - do it myself, or get someone to do it?

Hello Stangers,

Should I attempt to install new tires myself, or should I get someone else to do it? Does one need a machine to put a tire on a rim?

I'm worried that someone like Merchants or Sears might torque the lug nuts too tightly and strip them.

Which place do you recommend? Merchants? Sears? A place that specializes in Mustangs? Which place is least likely to over-torque the lug nuts? Any horror stories?

Or, should I just get Merchants to put the tires on the rims, and then install the rims myself?

All I have right now is the stock 17x8 rims, although I may get 17x10.5 and 17x9 in the future...or maybe just 17x10.5 and 17x8 (keep the stock front rims).

I think you're worrying too much.

You do need a machine to mount a tire on a rim. Some shops will not touch rims and tires you bring in yourself, unless you buy them there (they don't want the liability for damaging your stuff).

Overall, though, it's a very run-of-the-mill procedure and hard to get wrong.
