Installing Pressure Plate noob question

I have a total noob question on pressure plate install. I am putting in a Spec Stage 3. I have my new Ford Racing flywheel in and it has the 3 dowel pins for the pressure plate. Now the pressure plate can fit on those dowel pins 3 different ways, the pins are spaced equal distance apart. Does it matter which way I mount it to the flywheel. Thanks, Rob

Was the presure plate balanced with the engine? If not then as long as the dowels and bolts line up, all is good.

I tried it on the old stock flywheel and it would line up anyway on the dowels. Oh, are you saying the bolts only line up oneway?

The dowels should only line up one way, they look evenly spaced but they should only actually line up one way. My ram PP was the same

When I installed my Center Force clutch, the flywheel would only line up one way, but the pressure plate went on anyway.

Like stated by the last couple posts the flywheel only bolted on one-way. The spec stage 3 pp could bolt on anyway as long as its lined up with the dowels.

Here's the funny part. I got the flywheel and pressure plate installed then realized I forgot to put on the shield. Good news after the first round it only took me 40 minutes to do it all over again. Tomorrow morning I will install the bell housing before work.

Done that before. Good thing about forgeting the block plate, is once you do it once, you will never do it again ha. So frustrating. But yea the 10.5 inch clutch with the dowels will go onto the flywheel 3 different ways. If its all fresh choose a way and let her rip. But if you ever take it off that flywheel and want to reuse it on that flywheel, it should be used in the same location it was in, for an unknown mysterious reason but I have heard theories that attempt to explain why.
But yea hondas have the pins spacing different for each dowel so it only can go on 1 way, so i can see why you would be curious.

I went to take out the clutch alignment tool this morning and I had pull on it pretty hard. Everything is centered and I torqued every bolt in a criss cross pattern. Is it normal for the alignment tool to be a tight fit after torquing the pressure plate?

I just talked to the shop I bought the spec 3 from and he said the clutch disc must have dropped a little when I was tightening the pp. Back off comes the bell housing. Learning can be so much fun

dont take the bell off. hook the clutch cable back up and have someone depress the clutch. While the clutch is engaged put the alignment tool back in. This will re-center your clutch.

don't even bother with that...just have someone step on the clutch and stab the trans at the same time.

I ended up just taking the bell off this moring. No one around to push pedal plus it only took a few minutes. Followed local performance shops tips. Loosened up pp till clutch was movable. Then put in tool. Ran my pinky around tool to make sure even spacing. Retorqued all bolts. Tool slides in and out good now

hey all, I am now having difficulty installing the tranny. I put the bellhousing on first. The tranny slides in with ease until there is a 1/4 inch gap between the bellhousing and tranny. Should I take off the bell and attach it to the tranny first? Any ideas would be great!

The bolts will pull it the rest of the way in. Thread in the 4 bolts that secure the trans to the bell housing and slowly/evenly tighten them.
