Installing Speedo Carrier

Well i am about to install a set of 3.90 gears into my 93 GT, and i have the 6 tooth drive gear, and 19tooth pink speedo gear for speedo corrections. I know the speedo gear is a simple install, but how about the drive gear. Do i have to take apart the tailshaft to get the new drive gear in there, or is it a simple out and in like the speedo gear. Thanks.

i would try looking up tech articles. try here, 50tech.com, i dont think 50resto has one...thats if nobody here knows.

The tailshaft housing needs to come off. You will have to remove your shifter as well and drive out the roll pin that holds the shift block on the shift rail of the tranny.

Check to see if there is a speedometer shop in your area. If there is, ask about the Stewart-Warner speedometer gearbox. I believe it is either a 777 Series Drive Joint Kits and Parts or 666 Series Drive Joint Kits and Parts. It is a small gear box that fits between the speedo pickup gear on the transmission and the speedometer. It has quick change gears that allow you to choose almost any tire size and rear end gear ratio you want. This will allow you to get the accuracy with within 2%-3% or less. The drawback is that it isn't cheap.
