Instrument housing paint color?

I've taken my instrument panel out to install LED bulbs and was going to repaint the white interior surfaces for max reflectivity. One of the pieces (not the one the gauges are mounted to) is painted with a black/white pattern. Is is supposed to be like that? Would it hurt anything to paint it all white?

i hope you are happier with the led's than i am... not as much light (i went with the blue led's) as the old white bulbs with the greenish filters. im going to swap the blue led's for white, and put the filters back in...

I have the white LEDs under the filters, I'm not very happy with it.
I'd imagine the LEDs would work better without a filter though, they do block some light.
