So, I drove my mothers 91 F-150 a few weeks ago, and I was pissed.

That pick-up truck was SIGNIFIGANTLY more powerful than my thunderbird.

It had the power to sling all the body weight onto the back wheels instantly.

My mother says that the transmission has been modifyed with a towing gear.
I'm sure that probably has something to do with it.
1st gear redlined at 40 instead of 55 like my T-bird.

My T-bird is also a 91.

Now, another thing I have noticed about this truck, is it's MASSIVE intake w/ it's dual throttle plates.
And I can't help but wonder, "Does that make it more powerful?"
Now, I already know that in order to install one of those on my Bird, I will have to cowel the hood, my question here is,

Does anyone know or think it will be worth it?
That intake looks mean, but does it really flow better?

The only non-hood issues I can think of is just gonna be the sensors and duct work.
I'm thinking I can get the sensors to work, and the ducts will just be a space issue.

My Biggest concern is getting the MAF sensor working right. I'll probably have to use one from the donor.

So, any opinions?

the truck intake IS gonna be slightly better for torque. but i imagine the power difference you noticed was more in gearing than anything else. your t-bird i likely a 3.08 or so on the gears and the truck is likely 3.55 or so. you want similar performance, try a gear swap first. if you still want an intake, buy an aftermarket bolt on. or, if youre cheap like me, go to a junkyard and buy yourself an explorer intake

you'd be better off with an HO conversion. the truck lower intake exit at the head flange is tiny - the truck intake is built for low-mid range torque, but the HO conversion would be much easier.

My intake already has an "HO" badge. Is that what you are referring to?
I've noticed that mustang 5.0's seem to have a different intake.

When I first saw this one I thought it was an aftermarket.
(I had an 89 GT before this, and it had a different intake)
Mine seems to look more "cooling fin-ey"
The Mustang style one looks a little bigger than mine.

Oh well, thanks for the info!
I might look into that rear end swap.

Your mother's truck is Speed Density and as such it doesn't have a MAF.

I had read some time ago that the non-Mustang HO intakes were shorter than the Mustang intakes. The lower is the same so you should be able to swap in a Mustang upper.
