Intake manifold only, is it worth it?

I was looking at 50resto.com and they have the typhoon intake manifold kit (upper and lower) for around $330.00. My question is, is it worth it to only change the manifold without doing the heads? I can afford the manifold at this time but buying a set of heads right now is not going to happen. So would it be benificial for me to only do the intake swap? And what kind of power increase could I expect? Any help is appreciated.

I believe the Typhoon intake is based off the Performer RPM intake, wich would be too large for a stock heads/cam motor. But switching to a Performer intake would give you a really nice gain on stock heads. Trying checking on E-bay.

Ok I had a feeling it would be a little too much since it said it makes power from 1500-5500 rpms. Does the edlebrock Performer have the same bottom as the Performer RPM? Would it be possible to switch uppers at a later time if I did the heads, cam ect?

yes a intake would remove the most restrictive part of the engine - the lower intake, but like the others, the typhoon is probably too much of an intake for your car. but if you are planning to do major stuff like high end heads and an agressive cam, it might be something you could grow into.

Well my ultimate plan is to put on a Kenny Bell s/c but right now that is just wishful thinking. And I would like to get the heads before that to get the full potential of the s/c. But I was just hoping the intake alone would help me get a little closer the the 13's cause I wont be able to afford the heads anytime soon. If I were to put the Eddy Performer on with my current set up would it be worth 20 or 30 hp?

well, if you wanna go Kenne Bell...you may want to try and find a used GT-40 intake...you may not make as much power as if you went with the eddy intake BUT...the Kenne Bell wont bolt to an Edelbrock, TFS, Holley etc intake...only GT40 style lowers....

This site says:
"Designed specifically as a direct replacement for the 86-95 Ford Mustang. This Performer 5.0 intake manifold incorporates the latest air flow technology and CAD programming for maximum performance gains of up to 37 horsepower with no loss of low end torque.(94-95 Models require elbow adapter part #EDE3835)"

this is hp at the motor by the way...not at the wheels....

Are you auto or 5 speed, because with your mods you should be a little closer to 13's as it is. Get some slicks if you are having traction problems. The Trick Flow Street intake is just as good as the Eddy Performer and it is only $400 and works great for mildly modified engines. :nice:
