Intake Manifold

Hey, I have a stock 98 GT and need to replace my intake manifold, it had cracked and is leakang coolant fluid. Does anyone know the best route to go here? Should I go stock for around $400, or the guys at DallasMustang have talked to me about an intake kit for around $650. They say the kit converts my intake to fit Year 99 models, which would allow me to put on PI headers.

I've also heard that alot of you out there probably have your original stock intake sitting in your garage b/c you ripped it off as soon as you bought the car. Should I try and find a "barely" used one?

While were at it - as I mentioned above the car is stock except for Flowmasters. I'm ready to add a few mods on but am on a budget. What would you recommend next - Bassani off-road or w/cats X-Pipe, Air Flow Intake System, or what?

Buy a PI intake for about 215 from GEFRacing.com and to the swap. Do a search for PI INTAKE. Alot of us have done the swap and are very happy with the results. If you are set on replacing it with another NON PI intake, you could buy one off of someone who has done the swap. for about 100 bucks or so.

well putting on the PI intake kit will not allow you to put on PI headers, you probably misunderstood whatever they told you. how much money are you willing to spend on this project? you can get a PI intake manifold for less than $200 new, and new PI heads for about $350 a piece. plus then you will need realted pieces and gaskets.

do not waste money on a CAI, the amount of money spent, vs the hp gained isnt really worth it. if anything get a set of 3.73 or 4.10 gears.

He probably meant PI heads...

I didn't know that there was such a thing as PI headers...

if you get the PI intake, you can use the pi heads. Since you are looking to mod, you can get about 40rwhp out of the swap if im not mistaken.... And you can find the heads for dirt cheap.

I didn't know dallas mustang made a PI intake kit, but I know livernois does. If you got the dough, get the PI intake kit for a noticeable gain in hp, then get gears.

Your probably right about misunderstanding them. If I put the PI intake on for around $200, what else do I need? I've been told I would need to convert some things on my 98 before I could complete the PI intake conversion.

The price of the PI intake swap kit from Livernoise is so close to the cost of the entire PI Headswap I would opt for the entire swap. The kit is like 700 bucks shipped. Get the intake from GEFRacing and either find some heads on e-bay or SHM new. You'll end up spending maybe 100 bucks more but you get the entire swap. That's just my .02

aside from a few new gaskets and a coolant tube the only thing you need to modify is the PI intake. You just have to tap the new sensor and that's cake.

I am in the middle of the full PI head and Intake swap right now. It is fairly straight forward. You need a few bolts, gaskets, and hoses. If you go with new PI heads you need a new alternator bracket as well so your old alternator will fit. If you want a list of all of the parts you will need to do the swap talk to Randy @ Liberty Ford in Baltimore, 410-655-2000. He gave me the list of all things needed for the headswap including part numbers and pricing. The one thing on the list that you do not need is the head covers. Mine worked fine with the swap. If you want an aftermarket temp gauge you need to tap a third hole in the manifold. I still don't have my car back yet. Waiting on a heater hose. Good luck and have fun!
