After just doing some research on simple mods, I stumbled across this article that was done in 1996. I found it to be very helpful and interesting. It answers a lot of questions that not only I had, but also have seen asked on here.

I'm sure some of yall have already seen it, but maybe not???

good find, interesting for sure. I liked how they dyno tested the engine after every little mod they did.

I think that they should have allowed for a cam change. They went as far as changing the heads, induction, and exhaust, but didn't bother to address the stock cam as a potential choke point. ( I mean who doesn't change the cam after investing in every potential bolt-on mod, including a GT40 intake, GT40 heads, and Hooker full length headers?)

The stock cam with 1.7 roller rockers isn't much of a choke point on a mild H/I combo.

I would not credit SplitFire spark plus with the meager gain of 1.5 HP. ANY new spark plug would have provided that gain. Gimmick spark plugs is one of my pet peeves. Electricity follows the path of least resistance, it does not care how many ground straps are on a plug. The spark will jump to the one strap with the least resistance. It will NEVER jump to multiple points (grounds) at the same time. Rant over.

"...a 1.5 horsepower increase that could be attributed to fresher plugs and not necessarily to the design of the SplitFires."

Isn't that exactly what they said.

See what happens when you read the list of items installed, and don't read the actual article, I jumped to conclusions. Saw the word "SplitFire" and saw red and overreacted. Shame on me.
