Interior Upgrades In Mid Year

I'm new to the forums. I don't currently own a Mustang, but I've just started my research. I prefer the GT and have read good things in Consumer Reports. They mentioned that the interior lacks refinement, but also said that Ford is expected to announce upgrades to the interior mid-year. To be honest, I don't know where the product cycle is on these cars. Have they announced the upgrade? When do the 2007 models come out?

If there is any information or threads that would be helpful to a prospective new owner, please let me know.

The interior does not lack refinement. Infact the retro look of the interior has gotten compliments in every magazine and review I have read. As far as upgrades go, I haven't heard of anything.

I LOVE my GT but the interior certainly does lack refinement. It's like sitting in a lunch box... plastic EVERYWHERE. They need more soft-touch materials and textured fabrics. However we won't be getting that anytime soon, the only mid season upgrade that I know of is an additional option that allows you to spec a slightly darker accent package. It won't really change anything. The best advise is to get a black interior so at least you can't see as much of the plastic.

If you want soft textured interior go buy a Honda. Spend the extra money and you can have what you want Im sure you also want to add neon lights and spinners.

I think the interior is decent enough given the car's price. But if fancy interiors are your thing, I'd consider another car. Happy with mine, though.

Ouch, you dudes don't take criticism very well do you?! Relax, it's just a car... a car with a really cheap interior. My point to the original poster is that the "upgrades" coming out are just extra options on the same crummy interior, don't expect anything better than what you see now. Personally I don't care much about interiors, after all I did buy a Mustang but that doesn't mean I have to turn a blind eye to it, or that I can't question yet another example of Ford's brutal cost cutting.

soft touch interior? that just means it's more of a pita to clean... there's nothing wrong with the interior of the new Mustang... gets nothing but compliments here.

I wouldn't say that "fancy interiors are my thing". I just like a nice leather interior. My reason for questioning the interior was two-fold:
-

• a friend of mine rented a new Mustang (not sure which model) and said it looked "cheap" inside. Now, I don't know if it was the base model or what. I also don't know what expectations he had.
• Consumer Reports also questions the "lack of refinement" found in the car, but mentioned the mid-year upgrade.

If I wanted refinement, I'd buy a Lexus. That being said, I do have certain expectations. My current vehichle has leather, but there is also plenty of plastic. I wouldn't say it was "refined" and it's plenty good enough for me. From looking at the Ford site, it appears that Leather comes standard on the GT Premium correct?

When does everyone expect the 07' Mustangs. I've been browsing a few forums and noticed posts saying you could no longer order an 06' GT. That could be crapola

I appreciate everyone's input and guidance. I'm just starting the research process that will hopefully end with a kick ass Mustang GT.

consumer reports is a bunch of weinies. they road test minivans and crap. my friend has an infiniti g35 coupe. i dont think the interior is any better than my mustang, and the seats are much less comfortable. if u want climate control and all that electronic crap, get a g35, but be prepared to be smoked a LOT by mustangs!!

I have to agree, the Mustang continues to lack refinement.

The problem, IMHO, is that Ford designs the Mustang for the $20,000 price bracket, but adds little-to-nothing for the Mustang models which head into the mid- $30,000 price bracket.

Really, one simply needs to compare the interior of Mustang to just about any other $35,000 car, and the differences really stand out. I mean, just compare the garbage leather used in a Mustang to just about any other car. No heated leather. No electronic A/C control. Just about no interior lighting (under dash, on doors, etc). Gosh, even my old "rough" Jeep has a more luxurious interior!

Plus there are the little things too. The S197 Mustang was suppose to have an analog clock (like the Ford 500) in the center of the dash between the two air vents. That was cut from the design, at the last minute, by the "bean counters" as soon as they realized that they got a clock for free in the radio.

Just so-that nobody thinks I'm a closet Mustang basher / troll let me just say that while the interior IS CHEAP I absolutly love the car. And though it is crummy the interior's actually very functional (except for the cupholder in the way of shifting!). I've owned a VW, a Porsche and a Subaru and the Mustang's seat and driving position is definitly the most comfortable of em all. Just get it all in black and try not to notice it.

i hate climate control, i had it in my benz and it never worked right. i think that most people are smart enough to control the temp inside there own car, who needs some computer to do it, that takes like 30 mins to put the a/c on in the summer. one of the reasons i bought the mustang was because it doesnt have all that crap. an analog clock in the middle of the dash?!! i am SO glad they didnt put that in. that would look right in a lincoln, but a mustang?! cmon..

What about availability of 06 GT's? I'm in the northeast and I've heard it's difficult to locate a GT in the winter up here. When does the new model year come out? I would be considering a new Mustang early next year. Does it make sense to wait.

Anyone have the Tungsten grey? If so, what interior did you get?

If you look at the history of the Mustang all the way back to the 60's, The inside of the car has always been about the same, Thin and functional. It only does what its suppost to do and no more. If the owner whats to add more to it they can. Ford has always built them that way and will likely keep doing it . The owners of the car builds it the way they want to, inside or out. Ford just gives you a starting point. As for the new one, its not the plastic that bugs me, it's the leg room under the dash. I hit my knee on it a lot. Other than that I find nothing wrong with the Inside. The Steering Wheel is in front of me to put my hands on, The shifter is in easy reach, and I can see out the front windshield, and the seats give my butt some place to sit.What more do you need?

If I'm not mistaken didn't the 60's mustangs have steel dashboards and doors? So the only difference is that instead of an interior made of steel it's made of plastic. Whats the problem? If you need something "softer" go buy some padding and leather, then get a can of 3M trim adheasive and have at it. And while you are at it, have the guys at WC Customs pimp it out with a coffee maker in the glove box. Then get one of those cool clocks/compass from Pep Boys and stick it with velcro to the dash. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the term refinement... I don't consider my 05 interior cheap. I abuse it daily (so does my dog) and I don't have any scratches in the "cheap" plastic anywhere. The seats are relatively comfortable and everyone who has been in it really liked the way the interior looked. The only complaints I've heard were from the people writing for some of the rags and members here who feel a need to find something to complain about. Let it go. The interior is cool, and most people will agree.

They were steel with a soft dash cover or eyebrow dash. the doors have a vinel center. and a small arm rest.

My plastic is soft and scratches easily. I wonder why yours doesn't???
