Hi all, been lurking here for a long time and have found lots of useful information while installing an '89 5.0 and t-5 in my '67 Mustang.

The car runs great sometimes and sometimes it has a problem where it seems like there is a 3000 rpm redline. The engine just will not spin any higher. This is in neutral/parked, or under load/driving. Turn the ignition off/on again, sometimes its OK, sometimes not.

I have searched the forums for every thing from hesitation, stumbling, missing, intermittent, you name it. I can't find any info on a problem like this.

My car is this:
1967 Mustang
1989 5.0 and T-5
Stock wiring harness/computer
long tubes/2 1/2" flomaster system
CAI
No TAD, TAB or EGR

Other than the intake/exhaust it is a stock set-up.

What I've done so far to remedy problem:
New cap, rotor, plugs, wires
Checked grounds
Cleaned salt/pepper shakers
Checked fuel pressure @idle and under load

KOEO codes:
31- EVP/PFE LO
67- NDS OPEN AC ON
81- AM2 OR VEHICLE POWER RANGE
82- AM1 VEH POWER RANGE
85- CANISTER PURGE VALVE FAILURE
84- EVR CIRCUIT FAILURE
95- FUEL PUMP SECONDARY

KOER: NO DATA

I am at a loss as to what would do this intermittently, maybe coil? I have access to an LTD I can use to swap parts for troubleshooting. Thought maybe someone would have an idea as to where I should look.

Thanks in advance for your help and here's a pic of the motor in the car before it was done. It now has a big honkin' aluminum radiator, a polished aluminum/K&N CAI, ceramic coated LTs and gloss black tubular strut tower bracing. Oh, and a hood...

As Daggs, said, the TFI can cause a wall-like symptom in some cases. Generally it is between 3-4K RPM.

But a coil can do the same...........

Good luck.

My module went bad also. I had similar problems. When the car was cold it would rev past 5000 with no problems, but when the car warmed up my ign. would break up bad and it kind of felt like i was hitting the rev limiter. I put an accel TFI in and have had any more probs.

Swapped TFI module and coil today while I was at work. 2 of each, one from a parts car that runs good and another from the parts store brand new just to be sure.

No changes whatsoever. :( Anyone else got any good ideas? Thought for sure it was one of those...

Thanks -Chris

i had my coil go bad recently, i guess it was real weak, b/c it wouldnt rev past 2k, and it revved like crap.

might try and swap the dizzy from the LTD directly over and take note of what changes.
