Intermittent turn signal switch - causes?

I think I have a problem here.

My turn signal switch (for turn signals AND wiper motor operation) has turned inoperable all of a sudden, but still works sporadically. I want to check the fuse first but can't find my manual at this moment. Can anyone post a schematic of the fuse panel or tell me which fuse relays to this?

If anyone has any other idea at what may be the cause, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks :SNSign: :nice:

Hey Dave,

Fusebox.

Have you had the column covers off to check the I/O wiring at the MF switch? There's a real good chance the switch or a contact in the switch is lame. On my '88 for example, the MF stalk is kinda sloppy. I imagine it will take a dump soon.
That's where I'd start though. If you start swapping switches, note that the airbag cars have different switches than non-airbag cars.

On a side note, how'd you find out the wipers don't work? You haven't driven the SC in the rain.................... ever. :D (Actually, I recall one car show where you had to drive in the rain.)

Good luck!

Thank you . I see both things aren't on the same fuse so I doubt that's it. "great"...

What's "I/O wiring at the MF switch" ?

oh - when the turn signals didn't work I started playing w/the lever and then the wipers didn't turn on either. I left them on, and later on while driving they started going

In and out wiring/voltage for the turn signal and wiper functions. I'd want to see if you have juice reaching the switch but not egressing when you close a given part of the circuit. If so, chances are good the switch is bad. But with the price of switches, no one wants to toss parts at this stuff. It really sounds likely however (because two otherwise sovereign circuits are acting up. I had a Porsche that used to do that - you'd turn and the wipers would turn on :bang: ).

Good luck and bump for ya Dave.

I had the same problem with my car except it was with the high beams. They would work one day and not the next. I replaced the stalk on the steering column and haven't had a problem since. The new stalk was about $40 at the local junkyard.

All the grounds look fine, fuses are ok.

The high beams work, the wiper motor is hit or miss, and the turn signals never turn on. Must it be the whole stalk/switch then? I haven't had much time to work on it so I'm a little slow getting around to it
