I have been trying to sell some car parts and other stuff on craigslist and i keep getting responsesm from "people" who want to send me the money and have me hold it for them till they get back into town and they wont tell me when the are comming back or they tell me there movers are going to pick it up. Does anyone know anthing about these scams or know how they work. I just want to know because i keep getting these emails.

Shaddup B

I had my old TV for sale on CL, and this foo emailed me about sending me a money order.

I simply replied that I will only take cash, and never heard from him again. Was he a scammer? Probably, if he never replied again.

also, a lot of scammers will email you and never mention your item by name... you will get emails saying:

Hey I am interested in your item. Can you tell me the condition and take some pictures of your item for me. This is exactly what I want...Will you take money order?

somethin like that. I get tons of those of craigslist all the time.

Not sure if this is exactly what youre talking about, but I've had two people send me emails about my rims - said they had a check that was written for more than I was asking and wanted to send it to me as payment. They said they'd only be in town for a couple more days, and asked if I could send the rims as soon as I got the check. On the surface, it seems like a good deal - I mean, who doesn't want more than their asking price for something? But the scam is that they're hoping you'll send them the goods before you try to cash the check, because its bad.

Bottom line: Unless youre dealing with some type of service that has fraud protection, make sure you have cash in hand before you send a thing.

Take their money and tell them you'll hold the parts for 7 days, after that they go up for sale again.
