Hi Folks

I did up a chart of iron heads in another thread and then realized I had
left out a group of iron heads :doh:

Here is that same info with :D

Iron OEM heads that have been modified by ........
porting, valve size upgrades, etc

Some of these dyno values are STD and others SAE ... don't be mislead ;)

Hope this gives ya'll an idea of what is possible ... or ... Not :)

Hey grady nice list...I hope to add mine when its fully tuned and setup.

FWI- for now its...

Thumper gt40, Tmoss ported Explorer, TFS1, 251/285, OEM, 98gt, 24, 1.6, Flow-tech u/e shorty, OEM, flow 2.5, 30* timing, -conditions were 99* high humidity (I think the final number for the day was around 70%)-.

...with abit more in it.

I guess since this is MY thread :D

I can deviate a bit from the original subject ;)

From this point in time ...
If any of you see stuff I post up here that you might want to refer to at some
later date ...

Better save it fairly quick after I post it up :Word:

Pretty soon .....
I'm gonna start to kill some of these older thread files on my host site as I place
more of a priority on the tuning stuff I keep there.

Things are starting to get a bit crowded over there :)

A public announcement of sorts ... if you will :D

Good to know.

SO once I get my ported Cobra intake, I should be able to get some GT40P heads, port them, and a afm b25 cam, and a bigger TB and some 42# injectors and hit over 300 RWHP if that list is correct. :)

I would get 30# injectors, but I am also saving for a KB. Gotta plan for the future.

Well Eric

Here is my take on looking at data such as this :)

If you take ALL the OEM block with OEM parts based combos you can find and look
at the percentage of them that top 300 rwhp you will start to see things like this
that I believe should be considered.

First of all .......

Some of those 300 rwhp combos are done with the STD rating which is usually
a bit higher than SAE and it is that SAE rating that was the original bench mark
of reference as I see it.

Then you will find that ......
Just cause you can say you got to 300 rwhp for a peak value ...
the low end has become a bit soft in the quest for that peak value.

This really does not matter if you look at a strip kind of application
but
A power band like that does not always make for the best street car.

Lastly .........
You don't really know what all was done to those exceptional combos

There is a reason why they excelled beyond most other similar combos

Some of the times ...
the reason might not be something that can be duplicated in a street combo

Things such as ....
no serp belt
race gas
etc

Then there is always the possibility of .......
the dyno could be a few percent off during the pull

Say you had a 300rwhp pull that displayed elevated values by 3% .....
Thats 300 x .97= 291

Just said all this to have you consider the trends you see in data
as opposed to
Hoping or Expecting you can duplicate the exceptional combo with ease

I am not trying to be negative :notnice:
I am trying to keep it real here :nice:

Hope some of this makes sense :shrug:

Im getting a ported Cobra intake soon.

You think with some GT40P's and a nice cam, matching inj and MAF, I could make around 275 to the wheels in? Id love that.

Well Eric

I looked at your sig and I see 1.7 rr's and a cai for motor mods :)

You add those to your parts above and you're off to a good start :nice:

Here is a crude way to look at the objectives ;)

Lets trace the air flow path :)

cai=Y
maf=Y
tb=N
intake=Cobra ported
heads=40p's
headers=n
mid pipe=?
catback=Y

Lets look at fuel needs :)

fuel pump=?
inj=Y

Now the valve train :)
cam=Y
springs=?
rockers=1.7

Finally .. the misc items :)
pulleys=?
tune=chip

Now ... lets address the N's & ?'s in each category :)

tb=oem is fine
headers=oem will hurt you ... but not all that much
mid pipe=if its the oem 4 cat pipe ... greatest restriction of all this group of parts

fuel pump=the tiny OEM pump will not cut it

springs=you want a nice set from Comp, Crane, etc

pulleys=good hp/tq gain through out the ENTIRE power band

You might do 275rwhp or perhaps a bit more ... I F ... you do the
above plan with headers, mid pipe, and a set of pulleys :)

You might have to get that ........ Hack of a tuner :rlaugh:
To do you a chip reburn ;)

I'd go with the better low/mid range torque advantage of LT's :nice:
and
The off road h or x pipe of your choice when you upgrade exhaust :D

Ive got a chip I can burn to what I need, and I plan on freshening up the heads when I get them.

As far as fuel, I plan on getting a Warlbo when I get the jack. Probably after I replace some worn out suspension parts.

And I wouldnt be able to use the OEM headers with GT40P's anyway, and I would stick with shorties for ground clearances sake, and cost. And I already have a O/R H-pipe, and have the smog turned off in the comp. Now I just need to take the pump out and all the other crap.

Sounds like a plan Eric so Good Luck :nice:

If you've dropped your Stang :shrug:

I can see the concern for ground clearance and going with shortys

The peak power won't be all that much difference between them :nono:
but
The low & mid range difference can be quite noticeable :D

Just one thing more on the LT's and ground clearance :)

I still run at stock height so I couldn't comment on a low ride
but
I can say my Mac LT's hug the floor pan VERY tight
and
From all the pics I've seen of BBK LT's ... they do the same

I would have to wonder .......
Just how much difference it really is between the two choices :scratch:

I'd be willing to measure low points on my OEM height ride if others
would be willing to do the same on their lowered rides :D

Might be helpful and an interesting bit of research :shrug:
if
We can't get the answer from others who already know :)

I would absolutly be willing to measure the ground clearance on my car (stock headers and flowtech O/R Xpipe) because I've been debating if the longtubes hang down any lower at all. My car drags on practicly any obsticle. My car has still has the stock springs but it's a cobra and I'm not 100% sure the ride hight is exactly the same as a GT.

Somebody start a new thread then :D

Do it in tech

Give it a title that is descriptive and can be searched by others in the future

I'll go out and take some measurements later this afternoon
and
Post my findings in the new thread :)

Nice work dude.

I'd love to see the graph of the GT40P, E-Cam, Cobra putting down 293 / 320. Do you have it? Those are stout numbers for the e-cam of fury. Do you know who tuned that car?

I need a mustang, stat.

Adam

:rlaugh: The e-cam of fury :rlaugh:

That never gets old :Word:

The thing about these combos is Adam .........

I just saw them listed on a chart on a forum

I got no numerical values or curves or anything like that

What we see here is what we get :D
so
Take em for what its worth ;)
