Is 400RWHP asking too much from this combo?

I'm going to dyno the car next month once I do some more tuning on the street. Car is as follows:

Forged 306 with 8.7:1 cr
AFM B-31 cam
Edelbrock performer RPM heads #60229(1.9/1.6 valves)
Holley Systemax upper and lower with 1" phenolic spacer
BBK 70mm throttle body
Harland sharp 1.6 rr
FMS 24lb injectors
Pro-M 75mm mass air
Novi 1000 (6lbs boost) 10:1 fmu disc
255lph fuel pump
BBK adj. fpr
BBK 1 5/8" shorties
Matching off road h-pipe
2.5" two chamber flowmasters
Built aod

I would say it'll be close either way. Obviously the aod and the unpullied novi 1000 will hold you back a little but I think you'll do it. Tuning is everything. Do you have a powerpipe?

Actually that was the next thing on my list to buy. I was looking at just getting a UPR one as they are considerably cheaper than the AFM. But I do like AFM products a lot. I'm even leaning towards putting a PMS on this car and tuning a little more than I already am.

Well, you may need some tuning, but that is similar to other 5.0 combinations I've seen reaching 400 horses.

For some tips on making the combo reach the 400 horse mark in case it doesn't, check out 5.0L Ford Dyno Tests by Richard Holdner: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=a02vedXCwE&isbn=1884089453&itm=1

In it he gives the specs and dyno pulls for a mild built 5.0 with 5 lbs of boost from a Powerdyne that reached the 400 horse mark.

injector size, you might need to go w/ 30 or 36's - w/ a charger on there, your gonna need more than 24's, 24s are good for a stock car w/ a charger, or a straight H/C/I combo, but the combonation of an H/C/I Combo AND a blower, your gonna need more fuel - maybe even bigger

I made 392rwhp with 5psi out of a pullied up A-trim ,HCI combo and I believe my cats were on there way out( clogging up) when I dynoed because when I went to the track I could not get out of the 14's however I was trapping at 108mph. I thought it was the clutch at first but when the rattle from the cats started I put on an X-pipe minus the cats and found the car to be a whole lot faster so it may have dynoed better without the old catted h-pipe. I believe the car will run alot better at the track this spring with just that change, Provided it gets fixed instead of totalled by the insurance company but thats another long drawn out story.

i would get a personal tuner, do some 42lb injectors and pulley that thing for 10-12psi. THEN i might expect 400 to the wheels.

A buddy of mine made 503rwhp with a pullied novi 1000 and trickflow heads/cam with a holley manifold :nice: No tuning device either.

Right now I'm tuning by sound, sight, and feel. I have access to a pms so I might go ahead and use it. I'm only running 6lbs of boost because that's about all the 24's are capable of. I will probably go to 42's later on down the road with about 10-12lbs of boost. But right now the car is more of a daily driver so I'm going to leave the 24's on for now. I decided when I put the combo together that I was going to be running at least 8lbs of boost, so that's why I'm using the AFM b-31. (And I had excellent results with their N-91 in my old 331, so AFM was my first choice for a cam) It pulls strong now with just 6lbs, so I can't wait until I pulley the novi. And I did just pick up a innovate lm-1 wideband. I've just been so busy with work that I haven't installed it yet. I will let everyone know how it does when I dyno it the second week of February.
