Is 70k Miles Too Much For an '01 Auto GT?

make sure you drive it until it is good and warmed up. a friend of mine had one that drove fine when it was cold, but once it was warmed up, there was a terrible scraping noise that had be be bad. he said he had driven it for a while with low oil and then got into a race and something inside must have snapped.

mine had 70K on it when i got it last year, but it's a 1996. it burns a quart of oil in about 1500 miles, but other than that, it's fine.

Okay hotshot. This is what you are going to do here. I think that this 2001 Mustang GT that you are looking at is going to be the right vehicle for you. Especially if you are a young pup and cannot afford to buy a new one. You will save thousands of dollars by purchasing this one. I think that this is a very good idea. BUT do one thing first. You must go into the kbb or into the NADA book and see what the WHOLESALE value is on this vehicle. When you get the wholesale value you are going to give the dealer between $500 to $800 MORE for this vehicle ABOVE whatever that wholsale value is. I think that $11K is too much for a 2001 Mustang GT with 70K miles on it. I would think that you can buy this same car for $8,500 to $9,000 maximum. I would not give any more for this car. The dealer probably bought it for $7,000 to $8,000 wholesale. So, that's why you need to find out what the wholsale price on this vehicle is. Then give the dealer $500 to $800 MORE above the wholsale figure to buy this car. If he doesn't like it, tell him to screw. Anything over $8,900 is too much for a 2001 Mustang GT with 70K miles on it. Beleive me, the dealer probably bought this car for a song and a dance. And you got to buy it for UNDER $9,000 if you can. Oh, and don't forget to get the car fully checked out to make sure that it wasn't abused or if it needs any transmission and/or engine work. Make sure that everything on this puppy is in good working order before you lay your bacon on the table and let the dealer eat it all. Good Luck.

I just got back from a testdrive.... what a dissapointment!! The tranny is completely GONE! I floored it from a stop and it slips until like 3000 RPM and then takes off, but you can tell its screwed up. And on the 2-3 shift there is like 2 seconds in-between shifts and its like neutral, if that makes sense?! Brakes are shot too, I felt nervous even driving it, you had to mash the peddle to get any response... It's a POS for sure, too bad it looks so nice

I told you so. The transmissions on these cars are a P.O.S.. It seems like the Mustang GT that you saw and drove was abused. MOST of these cars ARE abused so be very careful when you are looking to buy one. I would buy one with lower miles or a brand new one if I were you. If I couldn't afford either one, I would buy a Hyundai instead.

Maybe I can sell you my 2001 Performance Red Mustang GT. It only has 1,279 original miles on it and I bought it brand new. It's NEVER seen any salt/snow and it's been driven just twice in the rain. How much do you want to spend? I may be interested in selling you my Mustang GT if the price is right.

The wifes 2000 auto gt has 71,000 + on it and runs great. No oil usage, no leaks, and runs the same as when new. We have replaced a couple IAC valves though.
