Is it a bad idea to go aftermarket on a motor mount?

I want OEM style motor mounts and no reinforced or solid mounts, my convertible shakes enough as it is. My question is will mounts from Advance, Autozone, etc. do the job like Ford mounts? Ford wants $70+ and I can get a brand at AZ for $42. Any ideas on the quality of their mounts?

I'm running stiff prothane mounts in mine and it doesn't rattle or shake. You might have a missfire or a cylinder down on compression if it is shaking. Also, the mounts from discount or advanced are just fine. But if you have mods, or drive hard, I would suggest the prothane mounts. They're about $100.

I have aftermarket prothanes as well and I don't get a shake. I wonder if one of your old ones is badly cracked. Mine were shot when i changed out the motor and it shook pretty good. I can't see why the Autozone of other similar mounts would be any worse than Fords.

FoMoCo has a improved engine mount for this, it was first used as a replacement for 1998 converts wth an "engine shake" problem.

On top of what ready said, if you want to get rid of shake you can add a strut brace, they reduce cowl shake. They will not increase handling like many think.
