Is it cheaper to rebuild or buy a great 4.6??

Hey all. I have my '95 cougar with a beautiful 150K miles. The motor runs great (even though my foots always on it) but I realize the day will come when it goes Kaboom.

So, Im on a fairly tight budget, and Ill need a new one. My ?? are which is cheaper AND a better deal to do. I know I can pick one up off Egay for a pretty good deal. (under $2K for a new crate one) But Id like a lil performance too. Those new Exploder 4.6s have an aluminum block, so that'll save a little weight too. But Im worried about the computer interchange (EEC4 to EEC5) Induction, heads, exhaust, and all the other stuff, it could be pricey.

On the other hand, I can have it rebuilt for about the same 2K, but the machine shop, that prefers ford engines, still hasnt rebuilt a Mod motor. So Im a little worried about theyre inexperience.

Um, . . . any suggestions? Thoughts?

Thanx in advance.
Jon.

a 4.6 short block is just like the rest of fords motors. they aren't that complicated. and about the rebuilding it. if you can get a good deal on the machine work the have them do it but if you can't just go ahead and buy a short block. plus it will already come assembled.
