That's what some guy told me tonight while I was at work because I am getting 35% (legal limit in al is 32) all the way around and he told me he has 5% on his impala on the back window and back side panel windows. He said he had 5 all the way around and scraped the 5% off the front windows and the guy that inspected it said it was good. So is it legal to put whatever on the back window?

In most states it is legal to have 5% on the rear window...that is what I have too..

35 on the fronts
20 in the back
5 in the rear..

Typically depends on state laws. In Illinois, I could probably Krylon my rear windows if I wanted to, but can't have any tint on the driver or passenger side windows.

In Indiana:

Operable windows: 35% max
Fixed/inoperable: no limit.
Windshield: No go (well, you can do 4-5" down fromt he top and/or 5-6" up fromthe bottom, which looks stupid).

All my cars in the past had 35% on the doors, and 20% on the rest, with 35% on the windshiled plus an 8% band along the visor line.

Of course, any tint, legal or otherwise, is no guarantee you won't be looking at the business end of a pistol if you're pulled over.

The few times I did get pulled over in the cars with tint, both windows were lowered completely before the office got to the car.

Also, if you have an optometrist's prescription, you can put about anything on it. Not to say you won't get pulled over, but you'd be exempt from any possible ticket they could give you.

I really don't think I'd go much darker than 20% on the back. Backing up at night is worrysome.

I had a friend that had a Tbird with 5% all the way around and 35% on the windhield. Cloudy days were rough to see. He drove it at night with the windows down.

I don't know how you do it evil.

But I will say, black glass is awesome.

I'm currently trying to find someone to do my car. The problem is, no shop will do the windshield. I had a work acquaintance that did all my other cars, but I can't find her. Last time I used her was in '01 when I got my RSX. She charged $200 for all windows, including the windshield, and guaranteed it for life against bubbles/discolorization.

I have a feeling, people like that are few and far between.

I *have* to have the windshield tinted. It just makes sense to me, since you're looking out of that window 98% of the time. At least I hope you are...

My usual setup is 35 windshield, 15 ds/ps, and 5 rear. Cops look twice at it, but don't bother pulling me over usually. I've had this setup on 7 cars now.

I figured as much.

I really don't think tint is such a big deal to police as it used to be. For a while around here, they had a hard-on for it, pulling over anybody that didn't have clear glass.

I guess they found more important things to worry about, like the 2-3 meth labs that are busted every 10-12 days around here. [sad]
