Is it my CCRM?

I'm still trying to narrow down the problem of my cooling fan not coming on by itself. I've read TONS of threads and they were very helpful. But now I'm confused.

1) When I pull the codes from the computer, the system kicks on the low and high cooling fan just fine.
2) My manual switch runs the fan.

-- So the fan is fine --

3) The ECT sensor is brand new.

To me, the fact that the fans come on when I pull codes suggests the CCRM is fine. But I hear of people having there's go out all the time. What do you think?

I will be checking the 14 and 17 pins for voltage tonight. Still, why does it come on fine when pulling codes?

Update:

4) The fan comes on with A/C and defrost on.

5) I pulled my electrical connector off my fan after hearing that people have had theirs burn up. It looks like it is a bit melted.

The question now:

If the electrical connector is bad, why does the low speed come on while pulling codes?

Does anyone know which of the three leads in the connector is for low and high speed?
 
Pin 17 is high speed fan input, and should show GROUND when the high speed fan is on.

Pin 14 is low speed and should show 12 volts when the low speed fan is on.

I like your logic bud - If the fan comes on at some point (during testing), it works. You have a control issue.

One can also run a stand-alone fan controller (I variable controller would be sweet on our cars).

Hey thanks Hissin50. You helped me get this far!!! :) I looked some more when I got home. I found out my CCRM is kicking on the fan, well,.... most of the time. It was intermittent. I'm guessing it's on it's almost toast. So I'm going to buy this one guy's used CCRM I think.
 
I have not priced CCRM's but that sounded like a decent deal to me.

Do note that it could be an ancillary wiring connection or something at fault and not the CCRM. But an extra CCRM is great to have IMHO (I need to get one myself).

Since the CCRM controls other systems, having a good one is great. But just as an aside, here is Mr. Baskin's site with the variable controllers (this is the route I will go eventually):

And for you (not for a Baskin controller) I might do a manual switch or two for the meantime (it sucks when idling in traffic and the fan does not come on. I put switches on about all the cars with elec fans for when they get tempermental).

FWIW, I looked on the Corral and could not find the thread I was thinking of (Where I thought someone had similar issues as you). I probably misread the thread over there or had 'operator error'. :)
