Is it normal for my CAI to make noise?

Just installed a CAI a couple fo days ago. Just wanted to know if it is normal to have a turbulent noise? On high RPM it becomes really high pitch... It there a leak?

I dont have a CIA but from what Ive heard w/ other people that have them they will make like a sucking noise, from the air being sucked in. Not sure if thats what your hearing or not.

At a certain rpm you can play on throttle and hear a high pitched noise and yes you're fine.

The cold air intakes aren't rubber like the factory air boxes are (assuming you got a chrome piece) so therefore the air "harmonics" that are going are not deadened and more audible. It is normal.

If your car is running fine you don't have a leak past your MAF atleast...

OH wait dude, if it's making a real high pitched whistle. You could be in real danger man. You should be really careful or something in your motor could blow.























No worries man.

Thanks, it runs really well. No problem then.

Still the bassani overpowers it by a lot

Yeah the cold air intake won't give you any power. It is more for the "bling bling" factor.

The full Bassani exhaust you got helps out as you stated and having installed Bassani products (exhaust) I can say the quality is top notch for what you pay for it...

I don't completely agree with that. The factory intake is pretty restrictive. Just look at how it makes the sharp bend with the corrugated rubber tube.

Versus:


It might not make a difference on a stock engine, but as soon as you do an H/C/I, you've just got to start tracing your points of restricted flow.

(appologies for my engine compartment being a mess, still working on it)

I can't even tell you how much I agree with you on the factory S-bend black intake pipe.

The first thing I wanna say about it is .............. IT SUCKS

I won't go into a lotta details but I got this engineer type friend who designs car ac systems and works with airflow in pipes, ducts, box enclosures and the like.

I told him about wanting to make a home made cai and he asked to see the stock setup on my car. He then offered to test the airflow of the stock system and then test the hm-cai for a compairson.

We tested air flow through the pipe only on each system and the stocker was way more restrictive than the straight piece of 3" pvc, no surprise there.

We then tested airflow through pipe, maf, & same K&N on each system and the gain in air flow was just over 25% on the hm-cai.

This was over 5 years ago so I've lost the data we got but anyway I thought you guys might like to hear about it.

Well I've never seen or believed or felt any kind of difference on a cai on my friend's sn95's nor have I seen any significant gains from them on a dyno (online). My friend's got it for the "cleaner" look and nicer looking engine bay. The bend isn't to insane IMO.

Well

I don't know what to tell you cause I make my living by fixing pbx phone systems but my friend has been at that air flow stuff for a long time now.

He had this blower and a gizmo that kinda looked like a pc power supply fan. We put the gizmo in a 3" diameter cardboard pipe section we rigged up so it could be moved back and forth easily for testing.

This gizmo measured some kind of value and we then converted the tested value to cubic feet per min.

That it thats all ............................
