Is it ok to change to a synthetic in the tranny

In fact, I do remember some members talking about changing out the stock fluid and when refilling, using less than was called for. This supposedly helped the 1-2 grind and other stiff shifter issues. I hate to say this, but try doing a search until you hear from other members.

Don't do it, 2 years ago i was at a speed shop and i told them i wanted to do that and they told me not to do it. They explained why not to do it but i forgot. I only used synthetic for the motor.

I refilled my 3650 transmission with GM Synchromesh. Believe it or not, that was recommended to me by my Ford dealer!!! In addition to the service manager, several of the mechanics swear by that product. It has served me well so far, even in the cold Chicago weather we've been having.

On the bullitt archive site they recommend using Redline D4 ATF so I put it in and its shifting a smoothertry2catchmy99 said:

I have a '02 GT with 20,000 miles and had the same problem with the 1-2 grind. I researched it online and ended up going with Redline. It's now 5 thousand miles later and have no complaints. It smoothed the shifts out VERY SLIGHTLY. That's OK with me anyway because I almost puked when I saw the brown, smelly Ford fluid drain out.
..and most importantly, fill the tranny with the owners manual specs. (I believe 4 qts) DON'T FILL TRANNY TO THE TOP FILL PLUG!! (Many people overfill because of it)

I recall a member contacting TREMEC directly about this and being told to NOT USE synthetic in the Manual transmissions. I don't recall what was suggested, but they also said to use 3.2L instead of the recommended 3.8L. This was shown to decrease the problems associated with the 3650's.
