I have a few Autometer gauges in my car and have replaced the incandescent bulbs with blue LEDs (Autometer part# 3286). My question is can I wire these into the headlight dimmer knob and dim them just like incandescents, or do they need a constant voltage? Will they heat up or something if I do this? I have zero experience with LEDs. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Lyle

The worst that will happen is that they will not even light at all.

But since they are diodes, you need to make sure you hook them up the correct manner. Don't wire them in series, wire them in parallel.

I was talking to a friend about this and he claims that after a certain point of turning the dimmer knob they would simply cease to light up at all. Something to do with the resistors inside or something. Is this your experience or do they dim along with the regular lights with no cut out whatsoever?
