Fundemental dork question here.

Am I just fooling myself or is it possible to get 300hp on my 99GT without some sort of boost (i.e. turbo or supercharger) or nitrous?

I have seen some of the numbers with:

INTAKE
Underdrive pullys
Cold Air Intake Kit
Mass Air Sensor
Pelenum
Throtle Body

EXAUST
Headers Long Tube
X - Pipes
Cat Backs? Not sure if that does anything

What else can I do to help myself? What I'm asking is am I just fooling myself with these bolt ons? Or should I just replace the damn engine or get a boost? How about new cams and a new intake manifold or new heads?

Thanks all....

If you can if you have done these mods can you tell me what you are pushing on your Mod.

Thank you Very ..very ...very much.

Eric

:nice:

Thanks all!

Ok i have this months issue.

I must say that magazine kicks A$$ any others I should subscibe too?

I saw them using the Bullet intake manifold but damn....a new cobra alternator moving stuff around. That might be a bit beyond my novice skills...LOL

I would love to do it. I'm thinking of doing the work for myself as much as possible. Not becuase of the cost as much as I love the car. I just want to "look at and say...crap I did that!".

Ok Steeda said something about polishing and porting the heads. What's involved in that? I think I need to find a good 4.6 Modular engine shop in my area that can do that kind of work.

And yes 300RWHP is what I'm talking about. beastal I know. Are we talking about the white 1998 2V engine in Mods for Mods part III? Freaking killer man. I see that they put Comp XE274H cams ..CNC ported PI cyclinders (Factory I'm assuming), and the matching PI intake manifold (modified?).

And they took off the nitrous! I'm stoked. I need that action!

Where do I start if I may be so bold. ?

Nice .....

You are getting the MAC LT's nice! I was looking at either Hooker or MAC. Are those ceramic? I had a buddy tell me that ceramic was better for longevity and heat disapation.

How do you like the sound on those magnaflows..hehehe Crunchy?

Yep I'm with you on the C&L....I read that the Dragon (steeda plenum) and the BBK 70mm throtle actually dyno higher then the C&L and Accufab 75mm.

I may go with the Dragon since I screwed the pooch and got a dorky MAC CAI. The one shot would have been nice....wish I would have went with either all C&L CAI with mass air or Disencharger. *doh*

So did you install your cams? So the Comp Cams XE270AH
hmmm nice thanks. Did you notice anything with the new cams?

Have you ported?

Here's what I have:

- Mac LTs
- Trubendz o/r X-pipe
- Magnaflow catback piping w/Spintech mufflers
- Accufab 75mm TB
- C&L upper plenum
- Steeda CAI
- Comp Cams XE270AH
- Comp Cams valve springs
- Steeda u/d pullies
- dynotune with Pro-M chip

BTW, the XE274H cams are low-lift cams for NPI heads. Nothing wrong with them, but you would be cheating yourself on lift if you go with those.

Sweet!

Funny I was just looking at the VT cams....yeah 22hp is nothing to laugh about for damn sure!

Yeah do you need a special tool for the springs?

So are they 569 a piece! LOL good lord this hobby is going to get expensive.
hehehe

What is the average cost on CNC porting?

You rock NICK! Thanks :flag:

If this is what you are referring to....

"SOHC - Hot street cam, needs 3.55+ gears. 2000+ stall. Needs intake, exhaust and computer upgrade. Noticable idle."

They are saying that if you have an automatic tranny, you need a 2000RPM stall rating or higher on your torque convertor.

Yep I thought about that....nice...so need to advance my timing as well eh?
What gears are you running again?

I've had the Macs for about 6 months now and if I were to do it again, I would look into something else. The Macs are cheap for a reason. They make good power, but I have had it with the leaks. It doesn't matter if its the OEM gaskets or Percy's gaskets, I end up with random leaks.

Also, I highly suggest ceramic coated headers to cut down on rust and underhood heat :nice:

I liked the Magnaflow catback, but switched to the Spintech mufflers after the cam install. Nothing sounds sicker than a cammed car with chambered mufflers.

I bought the C&L not too long after it was released. I now wish I would have waited just a little longer until the plenum comparo was posted here and at Modular Depot.

A friend of mine and I did the cams and springs. The springs are a real pain in the butt. The cams are the easy part. There is definitely a difference with the cams. The car now pulls very hard all the way to redline. I would also recommend looking into the VT Engines Stage II cams. People have been getting very good results with them and there have been less quality problems with the VT Engines parts.

Have you ported?

No, not yet. Maybe this winter if I can come up with the money.

And the spec's said something about 2000+ .... I have a 99 but I can't see why I can't use them. I have not hear of anything in the 2000 heads that are different. I have PI heads so should this not work on my ride?

Hooker and BBK have good reputations. Also, look into Flowtech. Their parent company is the same as Hooker and the Flowtechs are supposed to be the exact same part but the pricing is lower.

Flowtech huh...nice do they make LT's in ceramic?

I'm getting some 4.10's and the cams and will have them both put on at the same time at motor sport shop if I can find one in 100 miles of portland, or. LOL

All they have here are Japan-a-mation shops. They are everywhere! Very hard to find a good old school American shop. Oh well...

I've heard good things about Blue Oval Performance in Vancouver. Might give them a call. Also, the VT cams can be found for around $525-550 for a pair. I bought mine for $525 a while back.

There are a lot of guys on here and other boards making 300 RWHP N/A. It can be done. I'm hoping to be there or close - My plan is to add boost, however, so the blower cams won't give me quite the pop a Stage I or II N/A cam would until the blower is on.

Good luck with your build up!
