I've seen a couple of people push past 300 rwhp without any forced induction. However, I think they may have spent as much money taking that route as compared to just buying a supercharger.

In hindsight, I should have started with the supercharger and then added bolt-ons as I was able. Right now, I've spent around $2100 in parts and another $1000 in labor. These bolt-on modifications added 42 rwhp (50 bhp) to the stock 208 rwhp (260 bhp) To go over 300 rwhp (380 bhp), I will probably need a custom cam and polished/ported heads. The cost for parts and labor is around $4000. For about the same price, I can have a supercharger installed. That should bring me close to 400 rwhp (500 bhp).

If you piecemeal it with lt headers, o/r pipe, catback, cams, heads, valve springs, gaskets, etc. you're probably in the $3000-$3500 neighborhood for parts alone. As far as ET's, I've heard of guys pulling 12's (those who practice/drive regularly) or low 13's.

Off topic but does anyone know where I can get last months MM&FF because I think that is the motor I bought. I know it has the BBK valve covers, crower cams and ported heads I don't know what else I'm waiting for a list to see what all it has.

I'm over 300 but have a new shortblock with stock heads. That was with 96-98 SHM cams. I now have the VTs and a ported Bullit intake. Recently it dynoed 295 but it was rcih and 98 degrees out. I'm hoping this winter to get a retune and hit 315+.

Joe, you made 300 on stock heads? Wow - was that with Bryan's .020 shortblock? Which VT cams now?

I have the VT stage 2s. Did you have Brian have your heads ported? If I had known he'd have to pull my motor to port mine now, I would of had them done when he built it. So what numbers are you putting down?

nickthegenius,

Do you regret not getting the VT Stage II cams or are you satisfied with your Comp Xtreme Engery XE270AH? The thought of putting different cams in my daily driver is all new to me, but I'm interested if I can get some good hp gains from it. Would you suggest a dynotune to go along with new cams/springs? I'm a novice at all this, so sorry for the questions.

Also, do you have any sounds clips of your car???

No numbers yet - just got the shortblock last Tuesday. I'm hoping everything will be together by the end of this week. I'll break her in over the weekend and then get down to the dyno in a week or two. Bryan didn't do the heads - I got them from Patriot.

I'm starting to get extremely anxious - really want to get it done. The car has been down since May 7th.

Ok put the pipe down...LOL

I have heard more then I need to know that YES you can get 300rwhp on a NA engine. sheeesh! LOL

I'm looking at how expensive it's going to be to CNC port my PI heads on my current engine or just buy new ones and have them installed. I figure that and better intake throtle body better cams....maybe exhaust. I'm in like flynn

Definitely exhaust. I highly doubt you would get there with the stock exhaust and/or manifolds. Otherwise, right on...

If you haven't already, check out the Northwest forum. Lots of people there that can give you advice on shops.

Sweet! Thanks man

I contacted a local MustangWranglers group about 45miles from my house.

They were very helpfull and told me about a shop in Forest Grove about 45 mins from my house that the owner used to work on the NASCAR circuit. LOL

I might try him.

Man 4K in labor good lord. That boost is starting to look awfully attractive to my wallet...LOL

Fundemental dork question here.
Am I just fooling myself or is it possible to get 300hp on my 99GT without some sort of boost (i.e. turbo or supercharger) or nitrous?
I have seen some of the numbers with:
INTAKE
Underdrive pullys
Cold Air Intake Kit
Mass Air Sensor
Pelenum
Throtle Body
EXAUST
Headers Long Tube
X - Pipes
Cat Backs? Not sure if that does anything
What else can I do to help myself? What I'm asking is am I just fooling myself with these bolt ons? Or should I just replace the damn engine or get a boost? How about new cams and a new intake manifold or new heads?
Thanks all....
If you can if you have done these mods can you tell me what you are pushing on your Mod.
Thank you Very ..very ...very much.

I would consider doing heads. this will make your power goals a no brainer.

heads the labor kind of overlaps as well. your pulling the headers to do the heads. you don't have to do the springs because the new heads have them etc.

This is what I am saving for. just a one big project that when completed it will feel like your driving a different car.
