Is it possible..

I did...LOL
I have a tool that holds the alt (or whatever) by the pulley itself. Then all i did was use a long ratchet/socket to get it off. Obviously you dont have this tool so your best bet is just bring the car to somebody and have them take the pulley off with an impact wrench.
I've been able to take the pulley off before without taking the alt out of the car. You just need the right extensions and impact u-joints.

The stock alternator has a hex key hole in the shaft, 5/16". The nut is 15/16". Use the two wrenches together and it comes apart with no problems.

The 3G has no hole. You wind an old belt around the pulley to keep it from turning or use a chain type oil filter wrench.

uhh yea i took mine off by myself in the driveway and changed the alternator and it took like 15 minutes there is no need for a impact gun just get the biggest wrench you got put in on the tensioner thingy and put a large peice of pipe of the wrench then pull at the top of the pipe the belt should come right off i mean if i can do it by myself then you should be able to dont want to be showed up by a punk kid do ya

He's asking how to take the PULLEY off the alternator... not how to take the BELT off.

I tried sticking a screwdriver in my 3G alt to get the pulley off but I couldn't get it to budge.. i figured the fan blade would bend before that nut came off
