Long story short - driving on the highway, heard an obviously bad sound - but oil pressure and temp were both fine, and power was normalish... I drove it on home - got home, popped covers - this is what I found. Bend the pushrod when the valve spring broke. I think I hosed up the valve too - so the head is coming off - my main question is about this rocker - the pushrod still fits completely tight - I don't think I can easily find a single rocker - should I reuse this one?

background on the car - just bought it two weeks ago - that it's cammed is obvious, it has a trickflow upper/lower, 75mm tb, equal shorts, x-pipe, dumped flows, 24lb, 94 cobra MAF, BBK FPR, i've installed a mechanical oil pressure and fuel pressure gauges, steeda quad and cable. I didn't know I had roller's until I popped the valve covers... hell I dunno if the heads are stock.

sounds like you were beating on it hard and over revved it. spring let go valve dropped and bent the pushrod. pushrod nailed the rocker on its way back up. You definitely need to pull that head. Also what brand rockers are those. If they are pro-comp you need to throw them in the garbage. Also if those were stock valve springs then you have another one that is just itching to break as well.

They look like pro-comp to me. And yeah, watch the springs. You may want to upgrade now to save from further problems. I think it'd hold until you have time to tear it down, but I wouldn't push it with a cut in the rocker like that.

Off topic here.... But what is so wrong with Procomp stuff? I have a set of their rods on a 406 SMB and that thing spins to 7k like its job! has ARP bolts, and they are H-beam and are identical to the eagle's that i had in another engine. Just saying.

regardless of whether or not you decide to use the rocker over your biggest problem is finding out why the spring failed. I would be checking pushrod length, and spring compatability with what ever cam you have. Are any of the rocker shimed, I would be suprised to see a complete set of pedastal mount rockers with no shims.
