Doing the heads/cam this weekend, I was looking at my balancer to see if it was in good shape.

The rubber is coming out very slightly. Is this still okay, or do I need to be looking at replacing it soon?

Replace it. I run a romac light weight steel/aluminum balancer. Really nice piece. From the research i've done, romac and ATI are the best brands out there. Ati will be way out of your price range so i'd look into a light weight romac or maybe something like a pioneer (a bit cheaper than romac) I prefer the lighter stuff. You want 50oz balance.

Chris, I would not want to use that thing either - I agree with Mike about replacing it.

If wanting a cheaper unit, PP makes a unit for 80 bucks (street - good to 6500 RPM IIRC). Or as Mike mentioned, Pioneer/Powerbond units are cheaper.
Some parts stores have Non SFI Pioneer units on the shelf.

And Strokermotor used to have decent prices on some balancers.

I have put a marker line straight down, across both rings, so I can keep track of slippage. Might be worth doing if you have to keep this thing around.

How was that for random thoughts?
Good luck bud. :nice:

Another vote here for Romac. My ballancer was not on it way out yet but I knew it was on borrowed time so It got replaced last yr just in case. That ballancer is deff on its last legs.

:jaw: I was looking at balancers on summit, and some of them are exPENSIVE!! I only found 3 though that were 50oz. balancers, will a 28oz. one not work?

Where can I find this PP unit for $80? I'm not trying to break my bank especially since I need to get a tune as well.

Replace it for sure. When I replaced mine with a oem balancer, they didn't offer the aftermarket balancers as they do now. I will upgrade when I drop a 347 or 351 in.. :D ... but the oem part has lasted several years now.

i bought a stock replacement when my balancer completely separated. it lasted 2000 miles before it started to wobble. wasted $89. went for the romac and 2 years later it was still spinning smooth as silk.

:hail2: Price of quality but its worth it :nice:

Well guys, tell me what you think of this one.

Summit P# FMS-M-6316-M50

Couldn't get a link to work. This one has got to be a lot better than the factory one. I figure if the factory one has lasted 110k+ then this should be good to go. I need a fuel pressure gauge anyway from summit.

Id trust it more then a Professional Products one. There's not alot of stuff they make that is very good.
