Is my door locking messed up?

I've always had to lock my '65 doors using a key because it is the only way I can. This is the way the car was when I bought it. Aren't you supposed to be able to also lock the car by pushing the door lock down then closing the door while depressing the thumb button on the door handle?

Yup. That's how mine works.

Same here, Push the lock in while holding the button under the handle. Works everytime.

I think that the "keyless locking" of a door was introduced as a standard feature in 1967. My 66 has to be closed with keys like yours.

Every 65/66 I have own (a bunch) has been key lock only.

yup...i thought mine were broken too. I have to lock it with the keys unless i'm inside the car and the doors are closed

I was thinking "Ya mean all this time, all I had to do was hold the button in!!??"

Almost everyone who gets out on the passenger side tries to lock the door like that, and I have to stop them before they do damage.

But my electric lock project is starting soon and will finally tied into the Alarm for Keyless entry.

i have no locks, its all shaved, but i do have my pager alarm that pops the doors and trunk
