Looks like a GT to me!

If im not mistaking doesnt a cobra motor have something that makes an upside down "U" beside the water neck that goes on down in front of the engine (oil cooler or something).

I really dont think someone would go through all the trouble to take everything cobra and switch it to gt! But hey who knows, I just have a feeling the vin tag has been changed somewhere along the life of it.

Looks pretty clean though man

Is the insurance any higher???

That's definitely a GT from everything I can see. Agreed on checking the fenders, hood, bumpers and trunk. There should be a sticker that gives you the VIN number; you can see one of them on the passenger fender in the 4th picture above, near the hood hinge. Those VINs should match the door sticker and the VIN on the dashboard (visible through the windshield).

Here's a photo of a "stock" Cobra engine. I have prettied it up a bit tho.

That upside-down "U" is the Cobra-specific oil cooler, it runs coolant past a special block between the engine and the oil filter.

Now, I know that 94 Cobra 'verts were all GT's upgraded to Cobra specs (at least, the pace cars are). Any chance this is a leftover chassis from that "upgrade" by Ford?

If the insurance company called it a gt it would only be $43 instead its $76 a month for full coverage.

never thought about that "Chythar"

kinda funny how its the same color and same top color as the pace car.

they could have jus thrown some gt parts on it ... would that make this RARE? lol

None that I know of. The 94 Cobra pace cars have all the Cobra effects, plus door decals, special embroidery on the seats and I'm sure several other things. The only way I know that these cars started as GT's is the various books and articles online.

Check the VINs like we've suggested, that should tell you if the VIN really is accurate. If it is, I really don't know what you have. I certainly haven't run into it before.

Question is, how much deeper do you want to dig? What if you pull the VIN off another body panel and run it and it comes up stolen? Now you are in possession of stolen property.

that is really really weird. that takes some serious effort to convert that much over to make it a GT. i would say call ford up and ask them to run the vin

That things as GT as they come...but it has a Cobra's VIN all over it??

Even the door tag? Does it look like the door tag is original?

All the VINs on the car match, including the stickers on the major body parts (fenders, bumpers, etc). I could see if the door tag was not right, but the VIN on the dash matches, along with the others I mentioned. This one sure is a mystery.

Does Ford still own the database for these cars? I'm not sure where to tell you to look, but with vintage Mustangs, Kevin Marti bought the database for all the Ford VIN data. You can get a "Marti Report" for vintage stangs that tells you everything you ever wanted to know about your VIN #. He's also enough of a historian that he can explain some of the goofy stuff Ford's done through the years with our cars.

I don't know if his database covers 95s, but someone's got the data. This is interesting--it'd be worth doing some digging with Ford to find out what they actually did there.

hey guys, I called ford today and I also did a carfax report on the car. What ford explained to me is someone goofed when the car was build and put the wrong vin on the car. They said it means nothing other than its reg. as a cobra. so I'm thinking I'm going to convert it to a cobra seeing I'm paying for it right?

yup, the car stayed in the same family. The guy I bought the car off of didn't really understand anything about the car so I'm thinking his family didn't either. The only reason the exhaust isnt stock is because he didnt want to pay the cost of a stock setup (the cats went bad, cali car).
