Here's the deal.. I just cranked my car with the 347 for the first time. She cranks sloooow, similar to a car without enough juice to start.. I was jumping her from an 03 F-150 though, at about 1500 RPMS... Should have been plenty.

QUestion is... Would a bad starter do that? Reason I ask is, last time I used this starter with my old 302, she overheated.. I started it up once more after the overheat, but other than that, it sat 5 months.

Opinions? If I have to replace that starter, I'm gonna kill something. Longtube headers make me sad

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "cranks slow". Does it take forever for you to hear a complete crank? If so, have you checked your battery. I've had this problem before and found the battery to not be charging right. If it's a new battery, well then disregard. If it cranks and never starts, then it could be that you're not gettin enough fuel, which can be a bad fuel pump. I'm just talking from past experience. I've never had a starter crank slow. When they've gone bad on me, they just don't crank. Try tapping(hitting) it to see if that'll help.

Yeah, it's taking a long time to do a full crank... As if it DID have a bad battery, but I've got an Optima in it, and I'm also jumping it from an F-150...

I'm just trying to figure out if I need to replace my starter, or finish hooking up my fuel system.. I know it's not going to start either way, since I just got the fuel pump running (purging it into a catch-can, to clean the line) but I wanted to go ahead and crank the car to make sure I didn't have any elec probs first.

Try hitting it, maybe it's stuck. It has been sitting for a while.

I'd also run a jumper cable from the block to the frame. If it cranks faster, you know the ground pathway is bad.

If that doesnt help and you're sure battery and primary electrical connections are sound and sufficient, a high torque mini doesnt sound too bad.

Good luck.

THANKFULLY my starter isn't the issue!

It WAS my ground afterall. Turns out the cable connector was bigger than the battery post (I had a different battery in before now) so I'll get a shim and she'll be good to go.

Hi-Tq mini DOES sound nice, but I've got waaaay too much $$ into the car already, and basically no money left

Thanks guys. I'll post up pix, vid and dyno #'s in a week or two
