Ok, today I was just driving normally, went to punch it in just alittle, I think i was in OD, but it went up from about 1.5 to 4 rpm's until it felt like it "caught".... :(

Time for a new one? :nonono:

OR does it do this if it shifts out of OD?

Sounds like you are having tranny problems. You can try changing the fluid/filter, but my guess is you have something more serious wrong. Main pump, valves, band, etc.

If it is bad (i.e. needs removal & some form of repair), what do you plan to do? Work on it yourself or a shop? We can give you more advice once we know.

Well, I'm not very well in the mechanics department, dad is pretty good, but not sure about tranny work...

Biggest problem is the $$$ involved. :nonono:

I'll just have to wait and see what the tranny does...

Same problem I had in my stock tranny before it went out and wouldn't shift at all into OD. When I brought to a few tranny shops the only thing I got was you need a complete rebuild. You may want to try changing the fluid and neutral safety switch. Those are two cheap options you can try before you spend money on a rebuild.

Yeah your probably gonna need a transmission rebuild.I had the same problem in my auto.Your bands are probably burnt up and you might have a bad pressure pump.Take it to get checked out and hope for the best.

Mine was doing the same thing, just swap over to a 5-speed manual, you'll be much happier, more fun to drive, I think. You could do the swap yourself, the prices are probably pretty good for that kind of thing now too. Good Luck Man, later

My AODE was doing the same thing!!!

My local Ford dealer service center told me the tranny was junk and needed rebuilt so I figured well i'm at it I might as well build it up and put a shift kit in it.

So I went to buy the parts from my local standard auto parts store the guy there use to work on trannys and he said from the sounds of it that it didn't need a rebuild and he he knew what it was and he could fix it for $80.00 dollars and if it really needed rebuilt he would do it for $400 dollars cheaper!

So what did I have to lose I gave him my car and about 2 hours later he called me and said it was done and it would only be $20 bucks!!!

Well it turns out that there is a cable for the overdrive or passing gear(not really sure it's been awhile) that tends to get all gummed up and all he had to do is remove it and clean it up. :nice:

That has been about 3 years ago now and my tranny is still going strong!!!!

Hope this helps,
Donny
