I'm going to need a new balancer for my 408 that I'm building. It'll only see the track on rare occasions. It'll be driven mostly on weekends in good weather and won't see real high rpm's very often. I need to buy one soon so I can have the assembly balanced.

Some balancers listed as 28.2 oz and others as 28 oz. Does it really matter which one I get? They're both listed for 351W.

Thats what I just put on my 347, I was really impressed with the finish and quality- a steal for the price if you ask me. Plus it's SFI approved.

I had to do some grinding on the water pump to get it to fit properly as its definately much larger then a stock balancer.

I went with it as well, since its SFI based and the prise was nice. One of the holes for the crank pulley needs to be chased though..:( its really holding my build up up. But its a nice piece and fit well.

The price and being SFI rated was what brought it to my attention. Grinding on the water pump is the only mods that will have to be made, right?
Does it need any shims to fit an early 351? It's got holes drilled for 3 and 4 bolt pullys, correct?
It says that it has a bolt on counter balancer that can be removed for neutral balance situations. Does that part look well made?

I have one on my 351W. It is the SFI one tested to 18K rpm. I think I paid $240 for it. The quality is great, it is nice and big and heavy and will really calm down any negative harmonics in the crankshaft much better than a stock balancer would be able to do. The only draw back is that the laser etched timing marks are useless. Since the balancer is larger than stock, there is not enough adjustment in any currently made timing pointer to be able to point to the zero mark on the balancer.
