The Mustang is an early 65, not sure if I have a 170 or 200 c.i motor.

Block has the 5 freeze plugs.
Block also has the following on it:
C5DE
6015-H
The orange/red paint threw me off that it may be a 170, 170 air cleaner stickers are orange where as all 200's I've seen are blue Not that familiar with these earlier models.

Here's a few pics, any other #'s I should look for and were? thanks.

5 freeze plugs indicates a 200.

From research so far the "D" indicates from a Falcon, 1960-1969
It is however a 65 from the "5"
Thanks for the reply, will order parts for a 200 c.i.

The casting code on the side of the block will tell for sure. Important to know, since the 200 was much stronger. The valve cover and air cleaner should be red, but the rest of the engine should be black. And your air cleaner inlet tube is on the wrong side, easily corrected.

I think the owner was hoping for some sort of ram-air horse power advantage based on the air cleaner inlet position.

Will look for the casting code today and look them up.
Should be pretty knowledgeable by late summer on these as I plan on restoring and selling the I6's. (buying a 65 shell today)
I'm a member of fordsix.com also but haven't used it much yet.

Thanks for posting the correct pic of how things should look and be positioned.
Turned the air cleaner for the "ram air" effect for now

I'm planning on starting to visit there alot real soon, probably starting tonight, under same nick as here.

I figured all T codes in 1965 were the 200 c.i. but wasn't 100% sure, the 1964 1/2 I got today for parts is the 170 c.i. U code.

if you were closer, i would offer to take the 170 short block off your hands. but with 3000 miles separating us, it isnt feasible.
