Is this a good price for Dynamat?

dynamat, while it HAS been proven to be the best, when put into a ratio of cost to quality it loses to a lot of others. personaly I'd double up on either brown bread or B-quiet... it would be cheaper and do slightly more dampening. another new one that i have not gotten my hands on yet is the new E-dead from elemental design... www.edesignaudio.com err... i think thats the site... brown bread and B-quiet are cheap as hell on ebay... little harder to work with then dynamat.... but maybe the cost is worth it to you....

just trying to get you options.

I agree with Tor, but I would definitly say check out second skin. They sell it in levels of stregnth, much better prices and I think thier top one is stronger then dynamat.

Only problem is they are redoing thier site right now, so you would have to wait.

I recommend RAAMmat... I'll be doing my trunk one of these days with it. I did the floor in Dad's El Camino, and will also use it on the floor and trunk in my Belvedere... I think www.raamaudio.com or something like that... I stay away from Dynamat. They're just way to proud of that stuff...

You also need to factor in the weight you are adding when you double up with those other products. If you are adding it to your floor, the doors and the trunk that can add up to a lot of extra weight. Just another thing to factor into the equation. For me, dynamat is worth the extra cost.

I was thinking of applying Dynamat to as much of the car as possible. Is it really more lightweight than the other products?

Also, how does the Dynamat make the car look compared to ther products? I'm thinking this shouldn't matter since it's probably concealed, or not?

Thanks for the options. If I do decide on Dynamat, how much should I expect to pay for installation and what areas of the car should be covered for best dampening?

If you are concerned about weight, get dynamat exteme or the brown bead equivalent. Looks wont matter b/c it's gonna be under the carpet/door panels. Also, try to stay away from the more tar based products as they tend to leave a smell.

having tried dynamat, Susnami, and my personal favorite Hush Mat, I would never ever use dynamat again, it is pure crap, proven to only work properly when @ the right tempatures. Hush Mat completly killed the rattles in my Mazda mp3 and led me to 150.2 db with 2 12's.

E-dead from elemental designs, from what i have read, is supposed to surpas dynamat as far as eliminating sympathetic vibrations to the weight of the sheeting.... again this is the one i have only read about and not personaly used.

as far as how much to use and where to use it... you can theorhetically (wow butchered that spelling) its up to you... i have seen several people pull out the entire interior of their car, all the panels, carbet, and headliner, and covered every square inch of the interior..... others just do the trunk... some do the trunk and door panels... some just do the trunk and floor for the road noise.... i have used this stuff a bit and i just HATE working with it, thats why my mustang has none. i just bbuilt a louder system to cover up the noise when it gets too much.

Depends on how you want to use it. I've heard of guys putting (xx brand) of deadner on their floor, and fabbing up a plywood board with xx brand to go between the rear seats and the trunk. No personal experiences, but far as people reports, it works as well as covering the trunk and contributes less to the overall weight. Also heard that you want to watch how much weight you add to the doors as this will stress the jams and cause problems down the road when trying to close them.

I covered my car with a layer of Brown Bread followed by a layer of Lcomp that I got from B-Quiet .

You can see pictures of the install on my CarDomain site through the link in my signature.


Most stereo shops that I checked with wanted $1000-$1200 range to do the install as I wasn't bying a system from them too.


Chicane Sport Tuning in Torrance can do this install if your not up to it.

This is a little belated but I ran across this thread so here are some factual answers to your question.

First, that is an extremely good price for Dynamat and is in fact illegal. My suggestion is that you use a authorized dealer when buying Dynamat. There are plenty of people on the web and ebay that are selling items below the contracted price. Beware that they are also selling what is purported to be Dynamat but is not. You can definitely get it for a better price but if you go through an authorized dealer you are guarenteed that it is what they say it is and it will be replaced if defective.
The claims that the other brands in the market place are as good or even half as good as Dynamat Extreme are false. It would take as much as three times the amount of the closest brand to match Dynamat Extreme. Dynamat tests all other brands currently on the market place through an independent contractor and has the results and will email them to you at your request.
I have Dynamated my entire car(02 GT) and used 36 sq ft in the trunk, 16 sq ft in the doors and 72 sq ft total for the floor. I also have tacmat and Dynapad in my car as well. You probably don't need to go that far depending on your reasons for the Dynamat, car noise or audio. If you are going for audio I would do the trunk(if you have a subwoofer) and the doors first. You can also pull the rear speaker enclosure out and do that as well. You will see an incredible increase in the volume that your speakers put out. You also will see an increase in clarity as well along with better bass response. One other note, if you have a subwoofer installed you will want some dynashield to pour into the deck lid and spoiler. These areas cannot be dynamated because of the double skin on the deck lid. I have only noticed a slight rattle from the drivers side taillight, probably caused from the fact that the sub is pointed at it.

Good information, thanks for the post. Can you suggest a good place to buy Dynamat at the best price? I was just going to get it directly from them or possibly from Summit Racing. Can I get a better price elsewhere?

Can you go into more detail on your install? I would like to do the doors, floor and trunk of my GT and any tips would be greatly appreciated. For example, how many layers of Dynamat Extreme did you put down on your floor and other areas? Did you use the Extreme Liner? Did you remove the factory sound deadener?

I would buy from Summit since their price is slightly cheaper then what you can find on Dynamat's website. I put 1 layer of dynamat extreme in the trunk, underneath the backseat, floor and the doors. I topped that with 1 layer of Dynapad (instead of extreme liner) in the trunk and on the floorboard including the backseat area. Extreme Liners biggest benefit is the reduction of heat which shouldn't be an issue in a newer vehicle. I left the factory carpet pad underneath the floor but removed it from the backseat area. In hindsight it would have been easier to reinstall with the pad removed from the floor area. I made the console by using 1 inch screws instead of the 5/8's length of the originals. I can send you a PM with more information and some pics of my install. It is a pretty simple install as long as you are comfortable with removing the panels...ect. If you are planning on doing the entire car you are looking at two full days to complete the installation at least.

www.fatmat.com is all I'm gonna say. Way cheaper than the overpriced dynamat. Don't get brownbread because that stuff is not made for auto sound dampening and will not work half as well as this stuff. Just read through the fatmat site, it sold me instantly. I was gonna buy a whole trunk kit for my previous civic but sold it before I could. They have different thicknesses so you can decide how much weight you want to add or how much dampening you want. I'd say do the trunk floor, backs of the rear seats, and the rear speaker deck to knock out the exhaust sound.
