Is this a good price for GT-40 heads

That's about the going price for the "Y" heads. They're still good heads, just don't flow the big #'s the other heads do. If you want aluminum heads and don't care for "all out" performance, they're a good choice.

Will the "Y" head be good enough for 300HP at the crank? Any higher?

$850 is the "Buy Now" price. I saw another pair listed for $750 but it wasn't the "Buy Now" price nor did it meet the reserve.

The Y headed FRPP 302 crate engine's were rated (underated) at 320 crank hp with a B303 cam. So yes.

I have a stock E7TE 5.0 that has at least 300 crank hp. For it's weight and the speeds it runs at the track, it has to have at least 260 rwhp. Using reverse thinking, that's almost 320hp at the crank.

Now, did any stock 5.0's come with GT-40 heads (alu. or iron) from the factory? If so, what years and what cars?

Yes. 93-95 Mustang Cobra 's had GT40 Iron Heads. 93-95 Lightenings also had iron GT40 heads. All 5.0 V8 Explorers had GT40/GT40P heads. At some point shortly after introduction (sometime in first year of production) they changed to the GT40P head. All of these were iron as well.

www.powerheads.com also have CNC ported E7TE (stock garder variety 5.0 head) that out flow the GT-40 iron heads significantly. Cost $700 bucks I think. Would be a good stret head. But if you are spending the money, why not get some weight off the nose with some aluminum heads?
