I got my trans yesterday from Downs Ford. The receipt says part# M-7003-Z T-5 transmission. The trans has TREMEC on the top of the case, and the part number on the box says "T-5 1352-251". It doesn't say M-7003-Z anywhere). After doing a little research I found this info on D&D Performance's websight. I know this is a T-5 trans, and I have bought many things from Downs Ford without a problem. My question is does Tremec make the T-5 Z trans for Ford, and is this the same trans just in a different box?

Part# 1352-249 M/S Application 79-93 Tq Cap 330 Gear Ratios 2.95 1.94 1.34 1.1 0.63 - 2.76 Speedo Gear 7 Input Length 7.18 Pilot Diameter 0.668 *notes - e,g

Part# 1352-251 A/M Application 79-93 Tq Cap 330 Gear Ratios 2.95 1.94 1.34 1.1 0.63 - 2.76 Speedo gear 7 Input Length 7.18 Pilot Diameter 0.668 *notes - c,e

* This is part number that can be found only on the aluminum tag, bolted to the extension housing. Each part on the trans has a similiar part # but that is for that specific part, it will not help you to id transmission.

M/S = Motorsport or Ford Racing
A/M= Aftermarket

Notes: (a) Ford ms m7003a (b) improved steel (c) aftermarket (d) carbon fiber 3/4 blocker
(e) cobra tapered roller pocket brg. (f) Ford ms 7003x (g) Ford ms7003z
All input Splines are 1 1/16- 10T
All Output Spline are 28 T

BW was absorbed by Tremec in the late 90's IIRC. Cant help anymore than that.

Good luck.

Not much help but...

I bought a T5z from JEGs last summer, part number on the transmission case itself ended in a z, says TREMEC on it near the part number, the box had M-7003-Z on it which is the same number JEGs used (and still does if you search on their site) for the trans...

Sorry not of much help but that is the way my T5z looked...

In case anyone is interested, I talked to Downs Ford this morning and they told me that Tremec does the upgrades to the T-5 Z trans' for Ford and that's why it says Tremec on it. I also called the Ford Motorsports tech line and they told me that the T-5 Z trans is technically an aftermarket trans because it is made by Tremec, and has been made by them for years.

the "z" trans came in 95 cobras stock. i dont they look any different. heres a handy tool. scrool to the bottom of this website, type in your "TAG" number, (should be on the tail-end of the trans, and it'll tell you what the trans is and what car is came from. i think it also explains the whole borg-warner tremac thing. tremac at some point bought out borg-warner.
