Is this normal for the A/C

I have a 2002 GT with just over 10K on it. The A/C does not get real cold. It is barely cool, and is it normal that the compressor goes on and off? I also have a Chevy Trailblazer and that thing could keep meat cold. I called Ford dealer but the only one who could answer the ? was busy. Don't know what everyone else does there. Any help is appreciated thanks

The A/C in my 02 GT gets really cold. I do believe it is normal for the A/C compressor to cycle on and off periodically. Maybe your A/C system has a leak in it. I assume it's still under warranty so take it in and let them check it out.

I have the same problem, it takes a little while though for my a/c to cool. The compressor goes on and off a couple times a minute. It's pretty annoying and I've had it fixed twice now. I have to bring it in again, we'll see. It's definetly not normal though.

As said, it's not supposed to happen, but there is a part that I had to replace called the A/C cycling switch that seems to fail quite often. You can get it from the dealer for about 15 bucks. Symptoms are that the A/C is fully charged but you hear the A/C cycle on and off as if it were low on freon (or whatever they call it now). By jumping/bypassing the switch, you can see if that is your problem - assuming you checked that the A/C is at the proper pressure level. It is the small cylinder looking piece that located on the passenger side near the firewall in the engine bay.

Are you talking about running the A/C at the NORMAL setting or the MAX setting? If you are running it at NORMAL, you are trying to cool air that is being brought in from outside AND on very hot days may not seem very cold. But if you are running it on MAX then the outside vents are closed and you are (re)cooling the inside air and it should get like a meat locker inside no matter how hot it is outside (if everything is working correctly).

The NORMAL setting actually cycles more often then the MAX setting.

I live in Vegas and somedays when it is in the 118*-120* range, the NORMAL setting just doesn't cut it. Being in NC and all your humidity it may be the same for you.
