I switched over my stock motor oil about 3 months ago to Royal Purple synthetic. The car currently has almost 5000 miles on it. The problem is that when I went to check my oil I had to another 1 3/4 quarts of oil!!! The guy at the shop that I bought the oil from told me this was normal due to synthetic being thinner and slipping through the seals because my motor isnt fully broken in. Is he right? There is no visible leaks and all my car has is a CAI/Tune. Any info would be helpful!!!

Did you check the TBS'S? My 05 has 12,000 approx. and I'm just now switching to Royal Purple. My dealer also told me there was no "break-in" time line on the engine or for miles put on it as a "break-in" period.

It runs pretty strong. Havent noticed anything strange performance wise. The engine does make louder ticking noises, but this could be due to the oil. I do have a CAI/Tune on it, but I hope this isnt the cause of my oil consumption.

I switched over to full synthetic at 3000 miles and have not experienced that problem. And no, that guy is wrong, you should not have leaks from synthetic. A read an article where the top guy at Royal Purple said today's synthetics have additives that make the old leaky reputation a thing of the past.

I chose that pic because of my signature, which is one of the Natural Laws of the Universe quotes. I felt it was quite appropriate AND an AWESOME pic.

Break In

I switched to Mobil 1 5W20 @ 3000 miles, I now have 10,000 miles and Sally doesn't use any.

No it's not normal...

Unless...

He only put 5 quarts in it to begin with..

The capacity is roughly 6.5 quarts!
