i was messin around with my car the other day and took out the air filter and took it for a spin with jus the screen thats inside the air intake tube. The supercharger whine was alot louder.. i was jus wondering if that is safe for the engine or can it have bad side effects...?

Air filter keeps dirt out of your engine. Leave it in and get a KN or something along those lines.

Definetely leave the filter on, like the previous reply said, get a K&N or some other free flow (not wix) filter, also Kenne Bell has proven that taking the screen out can add a little power, if you think about, there is quite a bit of suface area the screen acutally has. I took mine out when I put my CAI on, not to make more power, but I couldn't get it to seal.

Woa, no offense, but someone with a modified.. SUPERCHARGED, mustang would usually have some knowledge abou the car, and taking the filter off is a VERY bad idea.

ya, taking off the air filter on a supercharged car is worse than on a N/A car.

Umm. Something that I would not even think about doing on a supercharged motor.

Leave it on. It's ok to run it for a few seconds say for tuning but never run without it. That would be like putting a CAI that comes out the bottom of your car and then going through 3 foot high water.

Air filters are needed when you go out driving your car.

Thats funny, Kenne Bell STRONGLY recommends that you install the screen when using their kits......it says so in there instruction book for the 2V GT Kit. It has a LARGE BOLD warning about running without it. Where did you get this info??

Put the friggin filter back in! Oh, and before you ask...yes, you also need oil in your engine.

Well hell, there are alot of things that aren't totally necessary, but it's just dumb to drive a car without these things.
Using your (Saleen201) logic, oil isn't really necessary, nor are tires - you CAN drive without them...for how far or for how long...well, that's the question - same thing for someone running without an air filter (especially with a S/C)!

you took my comment to an extreme level. If he took the car just for a spin (my deffinition of "a spin" would be rightup the street and back) and he wasnt on a dirt road kicking up tons of dirt. I really dont think he is going to hurt anything. There IS always the possiblity that something could get in there, but we are not talking about driving around for 3 months with with no air filter.

and FYI no tires=less rotaional mass

OK, fair enough - my apologies. Maybe you and I aren't talking about 'driving around for 3 months with no air filter', but SuprCharged00GT might be...?
I just feel bad for a guy with a supercharged engine who has to ask if it's "safe for the engine or can it have bad side effects" - Jeez, what do ya think?!?!
As far as 'no tires=less rotational mass' - I'm with ya on that one!
Less rotation mass and reduced unsprung weight is where it's at!
