its kinda easy to tell a real saleen from fake in person unless the person spent a lot of $$ collecting parts

emblems, stickers, and depending on what package body kit, interior stuff, seats, white face 200mph gauges, supercharger, brakes ect...

its a fake....all saleens start out as v6 cars so if it comes back gt then you know

Go back and ask if you can check under the hood for a saleen plate. Better yet, call Saleen and read them the VIN # and they should tell you if it's real or not. The not having the number on the bumper part might tell you that it's fake. I think all real Saleens have numbers on them. Could be wrong though.

Saleen puts there own vin plate on thier cars, so if it's a regular vin plate it's a fake. I just happen to have a blank saleen vin plate sitting around..... I was gonna put the vin plate on ebay too, but it's too expensive and is semi illegal.... lol

yeah if it doesn't have a number on the bumper its most likely fake. i can't imagine the owner took it off.

I'm 99.9% sure that all saleen's do NOT start life as a V6. It wouldn't make economic sense for them to do it that way. Does this car have the ID tag near the shifter? Those can be faked, but its not easy to do.

yeah, i'm pretty sure it was just the S351R and SR that started as V6's.

in '00 there would be a VIN plaque on the firewall right above the master cylinder

Regarding the Saleen: Post it in the saleen section and they should be able to tell you! Those guys seem to know everything about these cars

yep i stand corrected i searched the history of saleen stangs and found out i was wrong about the v6 but some did start that way so i wasnt totally wrong:SNSign:

Many ways to tell...

-Number on bumper
-Body kit, wheels ( stampted with SALEEN) decals, badges, are obvious
-Racecraft suspension ( Alcon brakes are an upgrade)
-Floor mats, 200mph gauge, badge by shifter


Some things you normally wouldn't think about...

-C pillar is a molded fiberglass piece with blacked out from section
-Saleen uses 2 phillips screws to retain from of sideskirt, where most people mocking them only use the one factory hole
-badge placement and stamping on wheel ( embossed actually)
-Saleens use rebadged ( with racecraft stickers) Bilsteins, red racecraft springs, red racecraft larger swaybar, swaybar bushings.
-The Alcon brake upgrade would be a pricey purchase for anyone trying to mock one.

-Saleen painted the front lower radiator support black and sprays the backside of each cutout with mesh screen, flat black.

-Saleens use Borla exhaust, and will have a factory catt'ed X pipe ( Saleen uses factory H pipes, that they cut on the H and weld in a magnaflow X rear section.

wow nice things to look for...isint true that all saleens have rolled fenders lips too??
