Is this timing chain going to be ok for my build up???

Ford Racing Part# M-6268-A302, I just bought it off ebay brand new for 50 bucks, but after doing a little research, i found out it has iron gears, will this be a problem on a 331 w/ AFR 185's , TFS Stage 2 cam, 1.6 roller rocker engine??? do i need steel or billet gears??? is it that big of a deal??? it's a double roller though...what are your opinions??

i have never known of the material to matter as long as its a double roller thats all that matters

The material matters where the dist shaft rides on the cam. Not the type of gears that are in the timing set. Iron gears are preferable over nylon gears that Ford used in the 70's and 80's. They claimed that the nylon made the timing set quieter. I'm not sure of the combination of dist gear and cam as far as the materials for the different cams. Maybe somebody else can cover that.

When I was working with Ed Curtis on my combo he told me they had
seen several of the FMS setups literally explode sending bits of metal
all down the pan.

Then again, Ed and the peeps he hangs with turn mega rpm

But still, I paid just a bit more and got a Roll Master setup

I know I've seen many use the FMS setup over the years

I'd definitely say you're fine. I'm running a Cloyes double roller that I picked up at Pep Boys for like $16. They didn't have one for a 95 GT listed, so I just had them go back in years until they found one. I think mine was for like an 88 Lincoln Mark VII since there weren't any in their system for a Mustang.

I did a little reseach on this a few days ago over on hardcore50 and both FMS unit and Roll Master word well recieved/talked about. I'm pretty sure the threads were on street/strip cars shifting around 6500 and 300-500fwhp. The Roll master looks like a rock solid peice

I ran the iron FMS timing chain on my old 302 combo and I never had an issue, even when I spun it to 8300 and bent all of my exhaust valves.
