I found a deal on a 77mm Pro-M Mass air meter from a guy on craigslist. He's asking 125, i was gonna offer 100.

My question is, do MAF's normally go bad or tear up? Or am I getting a good deal here?

Let me know what you guys think..

Is it calibrated for the injectors you have in it? If not its gonna make your engine run poorly

I would go for it. Go used when you can to save a buck. I don't think maf's are a wear & tear item.

Yeah its for 24's. It has the filter on the end of it too. So i should go for it?

the 77 is an awesome meter that they stopped making years ago and replaced with an 80.
I personally think the calibration on those old 77's are better than anything else you can buy, period.

That would be a great idea, if the car was already mass air. But its an 86 im converting to mass air to make sure the new motor i dont have in yet will run correctly.

Damn. Only other option to visually inspect it and take the guys word for it or see if he will hook it up to his car. Once you take it home, you own it. I don't know of any way to test it off a car. I think they will fix a broken one for about $100

It's probably worth the risk.
Even if it is messed up, it can be recalibrated for another $100.
I agree 84top, the older pro ms were the best.

With that said, when converting to mass air, IMO, set your car up first with 19's and a stock meter (both should be dirt cheap or even free), then when you know it runs right swap in the 24's and new meter.

Very bad idea to build a motor then convert to MAF.
Very hard to diagnose issues that could come up from the MAF conversion itself or issues with the build.

will it not run like crap with speed density? cause all that stuff is still in the car, and its all working. The maf swap wouldnt be a big deal after i get the motor running. So i should start the new motor on speed density? Just so you know its not a stock motor. Its got a built bottom end with h/c/i. Will speed density still be the way to go?

Think mine is a Pro-M 77mm.....those are keepers eh?

The 77 has an aluminum body and a filter that bolts on the end. If you have one, keep it!

Most of my engine is used. Only the carb, exhaust, water and oil pumps, flywheel and trans were bought new, everything else is "pre broken in".
