i am on the edge of buying a 1997 cobra but it has a few problems. so i am deciding if its worth it to buy it and fix them and how much they should take off the price. the main problem i have is that when i am slowing down and downshift to 2nd it goes in and i let the clutch out and it pops out and grinds a little. although it has no problem when i am accelerating it always pops out on the downshift. but today i did hold on to the stick and held it in 2nd and it had no problem. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY IT DOES THAT ??? OR WHAT I COULD DO TO FIX IT?!

also the seal on the differential is busted ( i guess) and it leaks and grease is splatter on the undercarrige. after you drive it you get out and it smells like grease. the man that imspected it said that its getting on the mufflers and heating it up and thats why it smells so strong. he said just get a new seal and clean off the grease and it should be fine.

the last thing is a click when i turn left. but then when i got on a exit ramp today and it was clicking stronger then before. it was a right turn exit ramp.... does anyone know anything about this? how to fix, how much?

THANKS!!! ANY INFORMATION IS HELPFULL!!!! ASAP!!!

The T-45 trannies are weak and needs repaired or replaced. I have a 97 Cobra and first gear is difficult and reverse pops out. I plan on replacing the ever weak T-45 with a TKO tranny or T-56 if I hit the lottery soon.

I have heard of others repairing the T-45 and running into the same problem within a year or two.

your syncros are going! going! gone! It is not that bad if you are mechanically inclined. If you can pull the tranny then you can take it to a shop and most of the time they will repair it for $250-350. If you can't pull the tranny then most shops will charge $300-500 to pull it for you.

how much would it be to replace a shift fork? how much just for the part?

i am taking auto technology at my school and my teachers brother specializes in transmissions, so mabe if we pulled it he could fix the syncros.
the syncros are the things that make it so u can shift with out matching the speeds of the engine and tranny, right? so if it broke then i would have to wait for the revs to drop all the way down or would the tranny like...not work. :notnice: it poped out but i did held it in once and it seemed fine. is that the case for you budguy?

thanks a lot guys,
