Well been working on my 65 fastback for awhile and finally got it running right today - Edelbrock heads/cam kit, JBA headers, 2 1/2 exhaust, e-fan with variable speed thermostat controller etc etc - anyway when trying to get it running for the cam break in would only rev over 2K and then sounded fairly good but anything below stumlbled and quit. Got through the break in interval OK but spent forever trying to understand why it would not idle - dizzy off? firing order? cam a tooth off? on and on it went while it seemed like I had a huge vacuum leak but could not find it. Tried another carb, no help. Finally figured must have an intake major gasket foul up, was thinking of taking it off to recheck, had my finger along the drivers side intake runner just behind the carb and YEP there it was, a large vacuum port I had never noticed before and it was just sitting there wide open. Put a plug in, fired it up, what a wonder, ran very well

Congrats on getting it running. What AC system did you use on your car? How well does the T5 perform with 3.55 rear end ratio?

I have a T5Z and I am contemplating installing a new set of 4.10s I have or buying another set 3.55 or 3.73. Thanks

I got the Classic AutoAir - I never liked the BigBoxUnderTheDash look and I prefer a more subtle install with only vents showing, the ones in the middle are on each side of the console, no cutting of anything, dash or console. Works very well, controls are thru adaptation of the original levers. My car had the original 3.00 std rear/auto which I just changed out to the T5Z setup thru Modern Driveline. 1st gear with 3.00 and a 289 with iron heads and intake was a serious boat anchor feeling. I only have about 5 miles on the new setup with 3:55 posi and T5Z just today but the heads/cam/intake/carb setup with the new gears is absolutely more AWAKE than before I would not want 3:70 or 4 anything gears with this, running 16" Torq-Thrust II on 215/55R16 Eagle GTs

Congrats on hitting this milestone. Sweet looking ride, enjoy putting some miles on it.

Regarding what rear gears behind a T5z, I'm running 3.80's with 15" wheels and the gearing is perfect for cruising and aggressive around town driving, while the overdrive is great on the highway. I don't think I would do 4.10's unless you are going to spend time at the track.

Nice looking engine compartment, I'm not much for red interior, but hay, that’s me. I like the AC, but then I live in Houston. Texas Has 3 seasons, Winter, summer and August.

I actually like the AC under the dash. Yours looks nice too. Either way AC is a must have.

I actually used the Ford under dash setup with a modern compressor and 134A. I changed the expansion valve on the evaporator.

You need some floor mats to protect the fresh carpet.

I have a 302 T5 and 3.50 gears. I would not go more than 3.70.
