My dealer told me that the cluster lists for $281 and he would sell it to me for $228. The switch lists for $47.60 and he will sell to me for $35.72. He said about 30 minutes would be needed and that would cost about $30. However, he wants $60 to flash the computer. I am really interested in this upgrade. He tells me, however, that there are three upgraded clusters listed for my V6 and he doesn't know which one to order. Anyone know the correct part number for the upgraded V6 cluster. My car was built in January if that is of any consequence. Thanks.

i know that one is for KPH verse MPH if i remember my part # was 5r3z10849eb ill check tomarrow and post my buld date was 1-6-05

When you order IUP on a factory order, you don't get both the regular parts *and* the upgrade parts in your car. All Ford has to do is cover the cost DIFFERENCE between the standard and the upgraded parts.

When you order it from the parts department, you end up with the new parts AND the old parts -- two complete sets.

It's not 'less parts', it's MORE parts.

And, as others have mentioned, you can get the cluster and switch for well under $300. That's all the parts you need for your upgraded cluster, message center and MyColor.

with the upgraded dash, arent the extra gauges just fancy idiot lights? looks cool, and i like the message center, but i dont like non functional gauges.

True, I don't care about water temp either. But changing the colors of the gauges for 4 months straight is very important to me...

I don't think the Oil and Batt gauges are idiot lights. After my last trip to the dealer the mechanic didn't tighten the wire from my alt to my battery. That night the alt stopped charging the battery and I got a warning message to check charging system. All the way home I watched the battery gauge get lower and lower as the battery drained...
I can't vouch for the oil gauge, but the battery gauge seems to let you know exactly how your battery is doing... I've heard that Ford puts heavy dampeners (sp?) on the oil press gauges (don't know, I'm a Chevy guy, and this is my first Ford) so you wouldn't notice it going up and down the way you would on some aftermarket gauges...

gauges do work the message center is realy worth it. it tells everything i opend the cazr the other day and it said security event occured

Battery gauge is real, but the "oil pressure" gauge is an idiot gauge. If there is 'sufficient' pressure, it's at one spot in the middle. If pressure drops below the safe point, the gauge drops to zero. there are no other positions for the needle -- either its 'good' or 'none'. But the Message Center is a cool thing to have.

Well, the battery gauge isn't all that real either. Ever notice that where the needle points when the car is 'on' doesn't change all that much? It really just measures the well-regulated power the computer uses. It will only change values when there is a catastrophic failure, where both the battery and the alternator fail. Basically, while you are loosing all available power the needle will start to fall.

Good point.

I'm thinking the center dash gauge trio mount offered by a couple of aftermarket sources is the best option in the absence of real factory gauges. I'm currently trying to figure out how to mount them in the center stack so they don't look so 'aftermarket', but so far the molded plastic dashtop mount is looking like the best option.

Afix, have you had a chance to check that part number or does anyone else have the correct number to upgrade a standard cluster for a VG built in January?
Also, since the cluster can be upgraded I'm assuming the other dash parts can be too. Anyone done that or know what the cost would be? I already did the door sills. Relatively low cost and makes a world of difference in looks.

But you don't get the message center or the option to change your gauge colors for 4 months straight!

While I've been waiting for my GT to arrive, I've been reading up on my new car and was wondering what the "Message center" is.
For those of you who have the IUP, what is that? And what does it do?
Just curious.

The dash mount itself is almost $100. That's without guages which could run that or more. And you still wouldn't have all the featues and it looks added on, not factory.

Do you really keep changing the gauge color?

I would have thought it would be like 6-way power seats. Once you find a setting you like, you never adjust it again.

I agree -- I didn't mean *instead* of the upgraded factory gauge panel.

Personally I don't care about changing colors, but the Message Center is worth the upgrade alone.

I just talked to a dealer today and he told me that it would cost an arm and a leg to do it... but I assume he was just jealous of my car (I hope) and tghat he was just pulling my leg. It really seems like I'm only getting 8 miles per gallon and I would kinda like to know for sure.

And, yes, I know you can figure out MPG mathematically, but please don't anyone post how to do so because I hate math and I actually don't care enough to do it that way.

It can be done for about $260 in parts and $90 in labor. (See previous post). I don't consider that an arm and a leg. I'm just not certain yet about the correct part number to order my upgraded instrument cluster.

Can't you just ask your dealer for the part number? And for a 19 year-old college student with $375 car payments, that kinda is an arm and a leg... of course I do have two of each
